Dems could accomplish very little during that time although they proposed some solutions as the minority party (see earlier post). Put a Dem in office(or at least a Pub who respects the need for social security) and you will see real solutions on this issue.

Its not like the HARDCORE Dems who are unhappy with the Leadership are going to vote for the Republicans.
Just before the elections last year, I believe the approval rating for Congress was just as bad..if not worse.. I think people generally tend to cut the CinC more slack than the suits on Capitol Hill..regardless of party affiliation..Ironically, though...Brush-Clearer has really lounged in the basement for a while...

Part of the reason their ratigns ae gogin down is the flippant way they are treating that war. //// Quote:
public approval of Congress has fallen to its lowest level in more than a decade ...and the worst part is this is a poll done for the benefit and by a "liberal" newspaper knowns as the LATIMES...ouch. /// Many people predicted the Democrats placating the Far Left minority would harm them and thats exactly what is occuring. |

Congress' ratings dump began the day after they shirked their election mandate and caved in to the War-Criminal-In-Chief. The polling affirmed this. |

Do you think it is good for the country or bad for the country that the Democratic party is in control of Congress?" Good: 51% Bad: 37% http://www.pollingreport.com/congress.htm It's true, though, that they've lost some support among Dems wanting to end the war by any means. For them, the Republican Party is no alternative. Republicans voted lockstep for stay-the-course while Dems first passed a timetable resolution that was vetoed before 38% of House Dems eventually voted for funding with no timetable, while 99% of House Pubs did. The message for '08 is pretty clear. Right Direction/Wrong Track results are incredibly low. It's at 19-68 (about 10 points lower than in mid-late '06). http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/i/msnbc/se...SJ_Release.pdf Many Pubs are frustrated at what Bush has done to their party and feel he's jeopardizing their chances in '08 just like '06. Notice Bush's recent approval rating drop has been primarily among Republicans. Dems of course still know that Bush is in power and holds the veto pen on any meaningful legislation. This sort of gridlock did not result in the same dissatisfaction in the 90's. Clinton was most certainly not the polarizer Bush is.

This is really funny - wonder how many hits one would get from a Nexus search on lib media airheads talking about Bush's low ratings for the last few years - but for congress' 17% ratings - hardly a peep.
