Default House Republicans introduce their own immigration bill!

This one has some teeth in it.

Default Good luck

Yeah but it won't stand a shot in hell in passing. They know it too. It's purely symbolic.

I'm glad to see it. One of the arguments for the other bill was that it was either that or nothing. I doubt it would pass, but I'd like to see it get a lot of media attention. The clamor in support of this bill would be as great as the condemnation of the other one.

This bill doesn't solve the crisis.

Nothing will solve the problem COMPLETELY, but this bill would help. The Senate bill is pure crap and would make the problem MUCH worse. If it passes the Senate it won't pass in the House.

Only attention it will likely get will be in the same vein a the article by the LA Times that is linked(Bush being countered..Republicans arguing against Bush etc)...and even that use I suspect will be light because of the reason you hope it gets attention.

The "English as official language" provision is gratuitous.

The "no path to citizenship" provision is counterproductive, unless you think we can actually track down 12 million illegals. The citizenship provision is intended to help bring them out of the woodwork.

The tamper-proof birth certificates idea is fine, although I'm curious if that's technically feasible at a reasonable cost.

More Border Patrol agents? Fine. But you'd get far more bang for your buck by spending the money on employment enforcement.

Where are the penalties against employers?? There should be hefty fines, which could fund additional border agents. Hefty to the point that willful violations could jeopardize the existance of the business.

English as the official language is much needed.

Mya be some but the reporting is cruddy..well typical of today and so you don't get much actual infromation from the article.
