More like they don't want to lose the college student vote.

There have never been very many instances of people fraudulently claiming to be someone else in order to vote. It's just not a substantial problem in our electoral system. Disenfranchisement is a far more prevalent issue.

This would be one of the reasons the Koch Brothers have been backing this.
The problem with that dichotomy is that there have never been very many illegitimate people voting. It's just not a substantial issue. Most voter fraud in the US happens through laws that disenfranchise people, or administrative misconduct. It's more likely that imaginary people will electronically "vote" than it is for a real person to present themselves as someone else in order to vote.

I would rather have 1,000,000 people unable to vote that ONE person vote when he shouldn't. Fraudulent voting should be punished with death.

College students need only register in the district in which they want to vote in, either back home or at school. This isn't very difficult, and you'd think college students would be able to figure it out...

Of course it is not difficult, if you can't get yourself to simply register, which takes probably all of ten minutes then you are going to have a rough time when you enter the real world after college is over.

It has to be much harder going through life without an ID than it is to get one. You can't fly, rent a car, cash a check, rent a library book, get welfare, Social Security, passport, go to a doctor, an emergency room, etc. without one. So why would it hurt to show one to vote? A person is crazy to go through life without one. If your a legal citizen, sooner or later, you'll need one.
    Yeah, there's that too.

This voter law disenfranchises no one. There isn't a legitimate excuse for not having an ID. As I pointed out, you need an ID for just about everything. ID's make a person's life easier, not harder.

Exactly, they know that if a college student has an ID with their former state on it, they will need to go to the secretary of state and wait around all day long jumping through hoops to be able to vote. If they get too busy, there goes their opportunity. They are hoping to make it more complicated for first time voters who don't understand the system and are away from home.

The trick makes sense because the youth vote pushed Obama last time.
