Bush did not cancel the Constellation Program, that was Obama. Get your facts straight.

The Constellation was not a replacement for the shuttle. It was a moon return program.

The Venture Star was the replacement for the shuttle. Bush cancelled it in 2001.

Why? We diverted funding from a wasteful manned space program and into more useful scientific programs, like space telescopes, probes, robotic missions, etc.

The old shuttle was ending under Bush and the Constellation Program was to take its place. Obama killed Constellation and gave the money to the global warming researchers at NASA.
The Constellation was never supposed to replace the shuttle. It was too big to service a LEO mission. It was The centerpiece of Bush's moon return boondoggle.

The manned space program is a hell of a lot more than moving men through space.
I don’t “need” my AK-47 any more than Rosa Parks “needed” to sit in the front of that bus.

A significant portion of the technology we use today, including the computers we are posting on, have their basis in the space program.

You're correct, but I thought we were talking about manned space exploration, which Bush was in favor of, whereas Obama effectively killed it by defunding Constellation.

Wasteful? Do you have any idea how much technological spin-off has been created by the manned space program?

If you want to talk about wasteful, just look at the stimulus or Solyndra.

I don't care until we can get there or are visited.

Honestly, I love astronomy. I love space. It's probably the thing I love most in the world. However, I don't pay much attention to it because it's DEPRESSING AS HELL.

I seriously feel like I was born in the wrong time. I see space, I can't get there. I can't explore there. It literally depresses me, the things I can't do but future generations might be able to. So though I love it I leave it alone . Just going to the moon or mars wouldn't be enough for me so being an astronaut wouldn't be that great. I'm stuck here and we won't get out there in my lifetime.

to be honest, i think we should focus the search for life within our own solar system, with europa being the main focus. kind of goes along with what bronco billy was saying.

i dont not necessarilly believe theres live in our own solar system (other than earth of course), but i would in no way be suprised if they found simple life forms on some of the gas giants moons
Unfortunately Europa rotates through the plasma fields generated by Jupiter's magnetic field. This is manifested in a form of analogue of our own Van Allen radiation belts. Not much chance of survival for life forms there.
