I don't know why some athletes think they have to cheat in order to win. At least Jones seems genuinely sorry----unlike Barry Bonds who still won't admit the obvious.


NEW YORK (Reuters) - Triple Olympic champion Marion Jones announced her retirement from athletics on Friday moments after pleading guilty to lying to federal investigators about her use of steroids.

"Because of my actions I am retiring from the sport of track and field, a sport which I deeply love," Jones said outside the courthouse, tears streaming down her cheeks.

Jones, 31, pleaded guilty to two felonies -- lying to federal investigators about her steroid use and lying to them about a separate check fraud case.

think about it, as she stood on that podium she most likely new that she had cheated. She only thought of her self, never to think of what she actually stole from girl standing next to her. I haven't checked, but it could have been a Impoverished person from the third world that could have fed there families for a lifetime, with the endorsements that were obviously stolen(no Wheaties box). She should have work for this person for the rest of her life, she stole a future.

I wonder what they do now - she won 5 golds at sydney. Do they ask the five silver winners to send back the silvers and send them golds, etc etc etc

She owes Ekaterini Thanou (100m) and Pauline Davis-Thompson(200m) more than an apology. What will become of the gold medals from the relay? Will her 3 teammates have to give theirs up too? I don't see how they can keep them. All the silver winners have to get their gold medals, though I'm sure they won't get the glory or the endorsements.

She not only stole from the other track and field athletes, she stole from herself. She'll never know if she could have won without those drugs. She lived with undeserved fame and money from endorsements that belonged to someone else. Think of the thousands of little girls who made her their role model.

To my knowledge there were no steroids in use by athletes in 1919, though TY may have been guilty of being a prick. Ty Cobb referred to Honus Wagner as a kraut, I wonder what he would have called you littlebrutha?

Roger Clemmens to my knowlege has never been suspected or proven to use steroids, I would be willing to bet that a black athlete like Barry Bonds would point the finger at Roger, to get the heat off himself if he thought it were the case(it is a black thing to point and blame whitey). Mark McGuire took a supplement called Creatine that every collegiate athlete in America takes(discovered in France many years ago). David Cone and Darryl Strawberry are forever disgraced. Let's talk about Jason Giambi and Gary Sheffield, they should be suspended(for a season) until the steroids have cleared there systems.
