------------------------------------
World's future hinges on peace between faiths, Islamic scholars tell Pope Riazat Butt, religious affairs correspondent and Martin Hodgson Thursday October 11, 2007 Guardian Unlimited The future of the world depends on peace between Muslims and Christians, Islamic scholars told the Pope today. In a letter addressed directly to Pope Benedict XVI and other Christian leaders including the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, 138 prominent Muslim scholars said that finding common ground between the world's biggest two religions was not "simply a matter for polite ecumenical dialogue". The letter, which is entitled A Common Word between Us and You, says: "Muslims and Christians together make up well over half of the world's population. Without peace and justice between these two religious communities, there can be no meaningful peace in the world. The future of the world depends on peace between Muslims and Christians." ... Organised by the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought, a non-governmental organisation based in Amman, Jordan, the document comes a year after another open letter to the Pope following a controversial speech in which he quoted a medieval text linking Islam and violence. ... A Common Word coincides with the end of Ramadan and comes just days after the Vatican's official Eid message, which urged Muslims to respect people of all faiths and not exclude them on the ground of religion, race or any other personal characteristic. http://www.guardian.co.uk/religion/S...188742,00.html -------------------------------- Sooo... no global holy war this year. Oh well, theres always next year. Full text of A Common Word here: http://www.aalalbayt.org/en/index.html |

This is a good approach.
I'd probably check into the parent group a little, for political connections or whatever, but it seems like a decent enough message - You know, and I mean, the Catholic Church has, like, this enormous organization dedicated to furthering common understanding with the Buddhists - the Jesuits even have seminaries in Tokyo and all over the Orient - But not so for Islam. You know, ever since the Crusades...... So yeah, the Pope's probably one of the people, who could benefit from a little open-mindedness, in regard to modern Islam. There are a lot of misperceptions, in that regard..... Blade..... |

What part of 9/11 is related to "global holy war"? I don't seem to recall President Bush declaring a "war on Islam", do you? (scratches head)..... Nah, not even Bushie would be that stupid, right? .... .... Well...... Nah, he hasn't done it yet... you know, so far, his "War on Terror" is entirely secular.... |

So what: Who cares? You sound like those Serbian guys - you know, "hey, your great-great-grandfather's handservant killed my great-great-grand-cousin-twice-removed's lady-in-waiting, and therefore I have to kill you as a matter of family honor" - Even though that happened, like, thousands of years before you were even born, right? Honestly, some people will try to get away with anything.... I don't even know why they do it, it's like, they think they're "debating" or something.... |
