Default Spies relying more on 'open sources'

Director Michael Hayden is ordering that the CIA logo be revised to include the organization's new motto: 'Just Google It'.

From AP story:
"But senior intelligence officials said key findings in a new intelligence report on Iran's nuclear weapons hinged on intelligence that was hidden in plain sight — on the Web, in newspapers and in non-governmental reports."

So every American who reads the paper and checks the web knows more than our highly trained 'intelligence' experts. Now I am scared.

That's a different "kind" of intelligence - that would be HUMINT, not ELINT.

Default So I guess this is OSINT.

AP Article:
"Some analysts believe publicly available information — known as "open-source intelligence"_ is inherently untrustworthy, released by a government to deliberately mislead."

But the scarier line is "Some intelligence officers still do not have Internet connections at their desks."

Yeah - that would be POLINT ("political intelligence") - which is kinda the "non-existent" form of intelligence....

Um.... I think though, intelligence officers don't really have "desks". They're kinda "in the field", you know... They probably have, you know, Blackberries or something....
