Default .

the adult population of America is on a retreat into mumbo-jumbo,

I fully expect to receive a probing cavity search upon my next visit, "just a small price to pay to live in the land of the free"

No squabbles here, amico. Dan asked a question in a very civil manner (which I appreciated). I replied.

You must have sensed something that I missed. Which leads us back to the original poster's point (I believe): overkill.

Default I agree that LoSconosciuto's comments were not part of some

squable.

For what its worth, I do appreciate the thoughtful reply.

I am not saying you have to change the world, but I do not see how insults make it quicker or easier to post here. Also, I think you are a bright guy who could really add to the content of the board if you said the same things without the insults and personal stuff.

Maybe you will not change, but I will hope you consider it anyway.

Well, I'm now more inclined to patiently consider your posts, Dan, whether I agree or disagree in the end. There are discussions that take place here that don't involve joking around, insults, etc. - I'm in a "few" of those too. But I really don't post here as much as I did a couple of months ago.

I'm a sarcastic person by nature (wonder how many people do what I ask just to avoid hearing my lip? ). That I can't/won't change. But it's only fair to respond as civilly as possible to someone wanting a sincere reply. Not a problem.

And hey, for our harassed brother from the north, a gift: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...2004Jul16.html A solution that could have proved worse than the problem it was supposed to address.

Yeah.... you know white people never commit terrorism. Oh, except.... ummm.... the only other terrorist act ever committed on U.S. soil besides September 11. Remember that guy... oh what was his na.... Timothy McVey. Or maybe Terry Nichols? Ring a bell.... hmmmm seems like they might have been white....... I'll have to check into that.

I think God's been around longer than the immigrants.

However, in Bonillas, Mexico, a small isolated (completely inaccessable, surrounded by hundreds of square miles of chichihuaian desert and mountains, roads there on the Mexican side of the border, practically unheard of) just across the border from Big Bend National Park, both Mexicans and American tourists used to be able to cross the border freely, the Americans going to get a beer and taco in the small village and the Mexicans coming to America to sell tourist trinkets and for medical visits. After 9/11, suddenly little Bonillas was deemed a security risks, no more American tourists can go visit there and the Mexicans are now trapped without the tourist dollars that earned the vast majority of their income and now having to go over 60 miles to the nearest official border crossing, that's 60 miles on rutted dirt trails. It's incomprehensible that small Bonillas poses any threat whatsoever to America.

And yet hundreds of miles of Oregon coastland is ripe for infiltration.

Something is drastically wrong with this picture.
Canada has better immigration control than Mexico does. Thus it makes more sense to protect ourselves more from Mexico, than it does to protect from Canada. (Of course if we elected John Kerry we'd have less border control on both fronts.)

American folks were getting pulled over and questioned on their way out of the country. If you can't see how that is an egregious intrusion into the affairs of your own citizens and into the affairs of those who come to visit, then you really do have blinders on.
CanCart.... the Mexicans get inspected when they leave Mexico to come here (unless they're illegal). Why should the U.S. be the only country in the world where the citizens don't get inspected upon leaving the country?

Maybe you dont' get it either. I'll spell it out, ignoring all the inane responses, all the invitations to stay the hell out etc. None of them address the issue at hand, anyways.

If my government stopped me to question me as I attempted to exit my country, I would be outraged!

FULL STOP

It is none of their (*)(*)(*)(*) business where I'm going, or when I'm coming back. I live in a free country. I am free to come and go as I please. The only other place I know of where this kind of thing occurrs would be a commnist dictatorship, and those are getting pretty hard to find these days.

FULL STOP

Your government is stopping your citizens questioning them as they leave your country! I find this unbelievable!

Apparently this doesn't concern many people here. Sorry to have bothered you. I now return you to your regularly scheduled nap.
Allow me to explain this to you oh little minded one. There are people in the U.S. known as "car thieves." These people steal other people's cars. Then they take them down to Mexico where they can sell them for more money without worrying about getting cracked down on by the Mexican government. Don't you see? They aren't just stopping you to look for bomb parts. Every car that is newer than 12 years old will get stopped at the border and inspected.... this is insurance against car theft on newer cars. This has been happening since before September 11. If it never happened to you before, then the border patrol wasn't doing their job. I learned this in 2001 when my truck was stolen. Unfortunately it was 13 years old, which is probably why it never turned up. Its in pieces down in Nogales somewhere. Now that you know this little piece of info, you should be thanking the U.S. government for helping to ensure that if your car is ever stolen, you just might get it back before its smuggled out of the coutnry.
