I don't think they're actually "banning" it. I think, like they used to do with Jehovah's Witnesses, that they're declaring it a "For-Profit Organization" instead of a "Religious Organization."

The recent military movie with tom Cruise, it just went into theaters earlier this month I believe... they had to re-create a historical site that is involved in the movie, because the Germans wouldn't let him on it since he is Scientologist. Which I think is discriminatory. But it affects me none.

Maybe. But having European parents isnt necessarily a prerequisite to having an inferior ideology. It just seems to be more likely among Europeans.

In America they are a minority. They arent in Europe. Thats the difference.

The US has examples of its citizens being anti-European. There are also believe it or not some anti-Americans in Europe!!!

We should all just learn to accept our differences and get along with each other without any hatred or overt generalizations clouding our judgment on individuals - that in any other circumstance we may be best of friends.

But the French, Germans and Italians are a bunch of smelly cowardly robots

You are correct. According to the German constitution, Scientology is not a religion, but a money making cult. Just as the US Justice Department used the US Constitution to charge Bernard von NotHaus with fraud and confiscate the Liberty Dollar.

I do think the story leaves out the underpinning of the decision. The ban isn't technically being proposed because of their beliefs, but because the state governments view it as a subversive organization. Just like we'd ban a church that advocated the overthrow of the government, or conducted terrorist acts.

That said, they're still wrong in this case. Not least because it's unclear how a church with just 6,000 members can seriously pose a threat.

But if the Scientologists do take over, can we say Germany is on Cruise control?
