I don't think we should have gone there to begin with. The Iraq war was based on a lie. I voted for Bush the first time, in part because I believed his lie about "no nation building!" But once there, there was no turning back. The troop surge is one of the very few things that he's done which I agree with. He waited for forever & a day to do it, and apparently had to be pushed into the idea, but at least he (finally!) followed some good advice.

Between the troop surge and paying & arming both sides (nothing says friendship like free 7.62 ammo), things seemed to have calmed down quite a bit. Score 1 for Duh-bya.

As for these pictures, I already know very well what bullets do to flesh. No, we shouldn't be in Iraq. But you could find similar (or worse) pictures coming out of Darfur... and there's no real American presence there. So, what's your point??? Shock value for the city dwellers who have never seen bullet wounds?

when the politicians finally got out of the way (removed rumsfeld) and asked the military leadership how the war needed to be fought we see a level of competence in the conduct of this war and positive outcomes (finally)
