Homosexuals are still not treated equally, in the military or in society in general. This kind of event is about the US Military publically stating that it recognises and accepts homosexuals as members of equal value and that it's other members should do the same. Nobody is demanding more than anyone else gets (just things like being classed as "ordinary people") but obviously the act of asking for that equality is going to be different.

If you can prove that you're being discriminated or targeted, you use the appropriate venues to put a stop to it. Pride events & parades are better left for civilians... the military pushes service before self, and other core values that present a sense of one holistic unit vs. a conglomerate of individuals with individual issues.

Washington (CNN) -- The Department of Defense announced Thursday that it will be commemorating lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender pride later this month. The event will be the first of its kind for the Pentagon.

"The Defense Department is planning an LGBT Pride Month event for later this month," Pentagon spokeswoman Eileen Laniez said in a statement issued Thursday.

Press Secretary George Little said senior Defense Department officials will take part in the event, but had no other details.

It looks like DOD wide. They're using "Pentagon" as in "from the Pentagon".

So back to my earlier question and I appreciate your being able to answer as former military...when have they celebrated blacks in the military, women in the military, Asians in the military, and Hispanics in the military with a special event?

That will be able to silence everyone on the topic once and for all. When events are equally applied people are content.

Blacks were not free to enlist or join the officer corps for a long time and when they were asked to enlist for a huge war effort they were segregated to different branches of the military but still allowed to protect white pilots.

I've never worked at the Pentagon so I have no diea what events they've had there in the past.
