The only option in my mind is amnesty. Get the millions of people here on the books and actually contributing to sustaining society, not simply living in the shadows.

But that is only half the solution. Without securing our border, its a waste and you simply find yourself in the same situation 20 years later.

What is the big problem with securing our border?

Very sad. You would think both political parties, if they were interested in the survival of America, would enforce immigration laws and secure the border. However, we have liberal Democrats whose goal is population replacement with 3rd world immigrants who are likely to vote Democrat. Kind of hard to stand on principle and compete with a party who will gladly disembowel America for power. Repubs are forced to play the same game, and everyone loses.

What's wrong with making it next to impossible to survive here with illegal status? Deny them employment, education, and social services of any kind. Couple that with a secure border and the problem will fix itself.

EDIT: Birthright citizenship must go as well.

Because we have allowed it for too long.

You can't fail to enforce laws for 20 years, having people live and raise families here, most of which are good people, and then decide 2 decades later "that's it, get out". That is ethically wrong.

I do believe in restrictions on both entry and employment after passing amnesty, its the only way to get it to stop. But its only fair and ethical to allow people who have made lives here and ultimately contributing to society to become citizens.

Infact, I think getting 12 million people on the books and paying income tax and other fees associated with the services they are provided would go a long way to solving most of our funding crisis issues.

Having millions of people living the shadows serves no good, and deporting them breaking up families, and breaking down decades of assimilation is wrong in my opinion.

I think Reagan's amnesty plan was along those lines. How's that worked out for us?

Wrong...

Reagan's plan installed only half of the ingredients necessary to solve the issue.

If Reagan would have also passed laws with 10,000 fines for each employee working for a company illegally, and also worked to secure the border, we wouldn't be in this situation again.

People only come here for opportunity or crime. Take away the opportunity, and only the criminals will come who are easily deported.
