    Obama channels Elizabeth Warren
posted at 4:01 pm on July 14, 2012 by Jazz Shaw

The President decided to take pity on the blogosphere, it seems. As we struggle through a hot July weekend and a news cycle about as dry as the drought conditions outside, he decided to throw us a small bone as the transcript was released from some remarks he delivered last night at a fire station in Roanoke, Virginia.

The basic message here is that the President just wants to help. Times are tough and employers are having a hard time creating jobs. (::: cough ::: regulations ::: cough :: But if you happen to be a business owner, the President wishes you the best. His help and good wishes, however, come with one small caveat… just remember that you didn’t build that business, so don’t get too cocky.

(You’ll have to scroll almost all the way to the end to find this gem. Emphasis mine.)

There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me — because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t — look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. (Applause.)

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.

I suppose this is the part where you remind them that when you jack up their taxes, it’s really just so you can give that money back to all the other people who actually built their business. But seriously, this is straight off the pages of Elizabeth Warren’s mind bending remarks from early this year. Those came crashing down around her ears, even in some Left leaning circles, so it’s a serious puzzler as to why Barack Obama would try to pick up that ball and run with it. Rather revealing, though.
Whats this goofball know about running a business?Hes too incompetent to even run a lemonade stand.

Taking out of context. He's saying you didn't do it alone.

There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me -- because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t -- look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. (Applause.)

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don’t do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.

It's true that practically all business owners have had some sort of help along the way. I got a loan, that was the help I got. But he can't seriously mean this:

If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.
He must have mispoke, because yes, I did build it. Nobody is out there finding me customers, nobody is out there doing the work for me.

If you listen to the context, it's clear he wad talking about the roads and bridges from the previous sentence.

What I take issue with is not this. If government was just building roads, bridges, and firehouses (to use what he mentioned), it would be perfect. The problem is the Democrats think government should be "building" full bellies and hospitals, and republicans think government should be building families and middle eastern nations.

Even if he's referring to the totality of 'systems' and infrastructure, his statement still doesn't make much sense, as it's the wealthy and successful who've made greater contributions towards it all, who've made it possible for the government to have such resources to draw from.

That's almost like telling a chef, "You didn't make that stew! The potato's helped!"

If that's what the recipe calls for, then yes, they did. As did the knives, and pots and pans, and stoves. Can't make food without proper equipment. All of which is not built/created/put together by the Chef.

This goes back to the age-old caveat that is the unofficial motto of the industry that I built my business upon: "Guns don't kill people. People kill people."

Actually, the "riddle of steel" from Conan the Barbarian says it best: "What is steel compared to the hand that wields it?"

Translation for the Cubed-challenged: What good are all those potatoes, knives, pots, pans, and stoves without a Chef to use them to make that recipe? Without the Chef, all that you're left with is uncooked, unpeeled potatoes and a pot of room temperature water.

Business people get all their money from us working people, or overcharging other businesses, or the government. You don't make any of it yourself, and half the time they're making it by scamming or ripping people off.
