Ingoring the rest of the comments made (that put McCain comment more in context btw)

I have to take issue with McCain on this...and especially the press.

Its his (*)(*)(*)(*) name!!!

This is akin to saying "We should stop saying Obama it sounds too much like Osama."

Sometimes the stupidity of these politically driven things is just so ridiculous....

Right... because people are always calling him "John Sidney McCain."

And I remember all the references to "John Reid Edwards" and "Mike Dale Huckabee" and "Fred Dalton Thompson" from the media and bloggers alike. Why, just the other day I was talking to my boss and I said, "William Henry Walton, I think we need to tweak this design a little."

Why is Obama being treated differently? Hmm.....

So you agree with the media Raytri that Obamas middle name is 'evil' and the mere mention of his full name is bad?

..utterly ridiculous to make the mere mention of his name "bad".

John Fitzgerald Kennedy, George Walker Bush, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, John Quincy Adams, Richard Millhouse Nixon.....

The list goes on.

The use of his middle name is a way of terrifying the xenophobic. And, it disappoints me that McCain would play that game.

I think some people think they can embarrass him because he's got a foreign-sounding middle name. For a bonus, it also happens to be the last name of Saddam -- and 50 million other people.

My problem with it, besides the obvious double standard pointed out above, is that the only people it can possibly influence are morons and bigots -- people who either think his middle name is significant, or who would cast their vote solely on the basis of race, ethnicity or religion.

For that reason I don't think it will have much effect -- I don't think morons and bigots are all that numerous. But I find the attempt vulgar and offensive, both morally and intellectually.

Morally, it's pandering to racists.

Intellectually, it's insulting. If McCain's last name was Hitler, would anyone believe he was a Nazi?

HE DIDN'T!

McCain wasn't even aware of the comments until after the event was over. He never made the comments..THEY ARE NOT HIS....and he said he was agianst when he became aware of them.

The subject is not CUNNINGHAMS COMMENTS..its not even McCains Reaction to those comments.

Its his name....
