Ahmadinejad arrives in Iraq on historic trip Visit highlights Iran's rising influence on its conflict-weary neighbor updated 2 hours, 21 minutes ago BAGHDAD - Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived Sunday in Baghdad for the first-ever visit by an Iranian president to Iraq, waving as he stepped off his plane to be greeted by representatives of a nation that was once Iran’s bitter enemy The visit gives Ahmadinejad a chance to highlight the improved relationship his nation has with post-Saddam Hussein Iraq while also serving as an act of defiance toward the U.S., which accuses Iran of aiding Shiite extremists in Iraq. Among the delegation of Iraqi officials gathered at Baghdad international airport was Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, who told The Associated Press that Ahmadinejad plans to leave Monday morning. Upon Ahmadinejad’s arrival, the group piled into a military convoy headed for a meeting at Iraqi President Jalal Talabani’s residence. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23429996/ ---------------------------------------- Iran's president making an announced visit to Iraq. So now I'm wondering... When the US president wants to visit Iraq, he has to come unannounced in the middle of the night through the backdoor like a unwanted stepchild. Didn't the USA free these people? Isn't the USA nationbuilding Iraq? Americans are dying and spending trillions on the iraqis.. So why do these useless iraqis treat the American president like trash? Yeah I wonder too... don't you have your own Russian election to worry about? Grond, go start a thread about the Russian election. Oh thats right! You only have one guy to choose from, and any Russian newsperson that says bad things about your sausage sucking vodka swilling leaders mysteriously dies. Well, whichever way Bush's adventure goes, as far as I'm concerned the US military and coalition forces have already done their job and more. Missions Accomplished by the US Armed Forces: Iraq liberated from ruling Bath party. Saddam & Sons dead. WMD threat gone. Iraqi Constitution passed into law. Iraqi Govt established and run by thousands of elected Iraqi politicians. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis in the Iraqi military. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis in their police force. Trillions of American tax dollars spent rebuilding Iraqi. Just because our leaders want to keep spending American blood and treasure for some bleedingheart goals of nation builidng Iraqi into some sort of multi-sect moslem paradise is not yet done, does not mean the American troops haven't done their job. It's high time the Free Iraqis learned to take care of themselves and their country. THAT is not the job of an American soldier. The soldiers of the United States can come home from a freed Iraq with their heads held high, chest out, proud of what has been accomplished. You take care, T Last edited by Tedminator; 03-02-2008 at 04:01 AM. |

-------------------------- Iran team leaves without US talks on Iraq Thu Mar 6, 4:56 AM ET BAGHDAD, March 6, 2008 (AFP) - An Iranian delegation left Baghdad for home on Thursday without holding talks with officials from archfoe the United States on the security situation in Iraq, an Iranian official said. "The delegation has left Baghdad because the Americans refused to conduct any negotiations," the official close to Tehran's negotiators told AFP. Delegation head Reza Amiri Moghaddam had been quoted by the Iranian media as saying a new round of talks would be held on Thursday in Baghdad, but both US and Iraqi officials denied any such dialogue had been scheduled. "The government of Iraq was busy with the visit of the Iranian president and there was no time to fix the date for the talks. There were no talks fixed for today," Iraqi government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh told AFP. US embassy spokesman Philip Reeker also said there were "no trilateral talks today." http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080306...talksdiplomacy ------------------------------------- Gee "I'm a uniter not a divider" Dubya did manage to unite the Iraqis and Iranians tho. Quite an achivement considering those two spent a million lives and a decade killing each other just a few decades ago. |
