Yup, sure am. Just a lowly little Sergeant making around 32k a year, before entitlements. But I am smart enough to know why higher gets paid more. The more responsibility higher has, the more they get paid.

Wow. Smells like "jealousy" in this thread.
Funny, it's always the expendable workers who whine about how much the decision makers in their businesses make. You know...the ones whos input could make or break the company? The ones who can either "make" a few million for the company, or can "lose" a few million. Perhaps the reason they're making more money, is because what they do for the company is much more important (as a single individual) than Average Joe Spindlemaker.

But by all means, find a way to get all those high paid CEOs, break em down to your level. Take away their money, then see how fast the company closes.

Again they are not a different breed, the most they deserve is about few millions not tens or hundreds of millions. That's how I feel and you are welcome to disagree. I am perfectly fine with your salary. |

I don't think it's right that CEOs should make so very much while janitors make so very little. I don't really know how to form a coherent argument on the subject, which perhaps points to a weakness in my position, but I think it really points more to a weakness in my debating skills. Regardless, here are the points of my position, not really summed up in proper argument form but hopefully useful for the purposes of this thread nonetheless.
1) You need good janitors. Without good janitors, modern business is impossible. A good company will have skilled, professional, dedicated, happy janitors. The same is perhaps true of CEOs but that doesn't change the fact that it's also true for janitors. 2) Are CEOs actually more responsible than anyone else? A janitor screwing up his job a little bit seems to be a lot more likely to be fired than a CEO who screws up a lot. Who pays when the janitor screws up? The janitor. And who pays when the CEO screws up? The janitor. That's not very responsible. The CEO is risking less and profiting a lot more. 3) The CEO sacrifices less. The janitor, if his janitorial job is anything like any I've seen (I used to do it summers as a kid), is breaking his back on a daily basis. He's sacrificing his health for the company. The CEO makes no special sacrifice. Now, I'm not saying that the janitor should be paid the same. The CEO has a different set of skills that are somewhat more expensive and difficult to acquire. The janitor probably can't do the CEO's job without years of training, whereas the CEO could probably do the janitor's job. These are all factors worthy of consideration. But ideally, everybody is well-paid, starting at the bottom. And if you have employees that aren't being paid enough ... well, I don't have a business degree or anything but my instinct tells me that it's bad for business and your business will suffer if you don't do right by the people that work for you. Or with you. However you want to look at it. |
