Yhe reason for them to use RC concrete reinforced structure is not only to protect from strom but also from earthquakes.
Then let them pay for their concrete and don't make me contribute. Period.

Thanks for the video, it looks like very complicated.

However, ask the hurricane and tornado victims see if they are really willing to sacrifice living in a comfortable traditional wood framed house with something like this one. The answer probably is NO, Americans are very reluctantly to change, Just like white fox.

I love my wooden house. I live about 500 miles inland. I hate change if it makes my life worse. I love change when it makes my life better. If my house was destroyed in Katrina, I would build a concrete house. if people are not comfortable living in a concrete house, let them live in a wooden one and let them watch it get washed away again. The government should not pay for these concrete houses, because that would affect me in a bad way. People who want the benefits of a concrete house have to pay for it themselves.

You do realize that once finished, a concrete home can be made to look identical to a wood framed house? You don't have to sacrifice anything. If you use steel rafters, you can open up the house a lot since you no longer need load bearing walls.

But, again it is a choice. Use wood, and rebuild after every storm. Or use something stronger, and don't.

Believe me, I had talked to many of my American friends, they all think that I am crazy, they have no concept of how a concrete home can be safe and comfortable. We are living in the 21 century but our house building techniques and materials still behind us a couple of hundred years. We can no longer live on the mercy of mother natural.

I am so frustrated that I have to explain to Americans how to realize that the safety issue is the most important issue to build a house. Ever since the beginning of the human history, we human being always have the capability to try to find a safer place to stay and make a safer home for families. If the wood framed houses is not safe for coastal area why are we still build them. Other countries can give up their traditional houses and live with the standard houses within their building safety code, why can't we? The sad thing is our government doesn’t even dare to come up with a safety building code.

No, All I had learned is from my experiences living in Taiwan where I used to live. In the 50's whenever a Typhoon was approaching the island we were so nervous and trying to find a safer place to escape. Since the government started new restricted building code, All new building has to be build with RC concrete reinforced structure [currently over 85% houses in Taiwan] we now just sit at home and watch the typhoon go by, nobody has to be afraid of Typhoon like we used to anymore.
