Fortunatly for me, this is not the case in Louisiana. They have a horrible educational system by choice.

If you are speaking about some populations in California that do have opportunities, you are correct.

Check out a topography map of New Orleans and vicinity.

It is 8' bsl (below sea level)

It is surrounded by the Mississippi River, Gulf of Mexico and Lake Pontchartrain.

No offense, but only a fool would invest in Real Estate there.

It WILL flood again.

Heh heh -- you act as if someone planted a stick in some random location and proclaimed, "let's build a large city here!"

Sounds like a GOOD thing.

The problem with NO isn't location, it's the politicians.

The city is being rebuilt and repopulated for political reasons, not practical nor benevolent ones.

The Port of New Orleans is one of the busiest in the world. The city itself accounts for huge portion of our petroleum production. Sounds practical to me.

Good point. Given NO's location having a city there is a given. There is a boat load (pun intended) of commercial traffic on the Mississippi River, flowing into and out of the Gulf of Mexico. There are numerous cities all over the world below sea level. But the reasons for building in those places made the risk acceptable. Had Federal, state and local governments done their jobs, NO would not have flooded.

I disagree. The vast majority of areas below sea level on Earth are located in deserts and/or sparsely inhabited regions.

For example Death Valley in California. Another example is Lake Assal in Africa. This is one of the lowest areas in all of Africa. In this region this water evaporates rapidly because the climate there is one of the hottest and driest on Earth.

New Orleans is a liability waiting to happen. It is surrounded by water and in a Hurricane corridor.

I STRONGLY disagree that the government should invest one red cent there.

It's happened once.

New Orleans is a strageic hub for vast amounts of commerce and Oil and Gas Pretroleum that cannot be denied. Port Fourchon below New Awlins is crucial for Oil production. It is a vital iinterest to the nation. Any bright minded individual can see that.
