See JP unlike you I am not shackled with chains to any party line. The Korean War came to a stalemate and Ike knew that the American people did not have the stomache to continue it so soon after WW II. We should have used nukes against China and that way the the USSR would have backed down since the Soviets did not have the means to deliver nukes at us back then. Ike was a mild Republican and it was time for the Republicans to take over after 20 years of Democrats running the WH. Ike was not an idiologicalally bent in dividual and was the right man for the time just as was JFK after him.
My dad served in Korea and my mom always told us that Ike was the president who brought dad home. I was forced to listen to Ike's speeches and got my government and crrent affairs lecture from dad. My sisters got away with it since they were only girls so what did they know !!! per dad
