Default Bring back the Draft.

It is what we need instead of repeatedly calling the guard and reserves continuosly to relieve exhausted regular troops. The draft will add more men to the armed forces and add releif. It also will shape up this generation of out of control kids which in my opinion need dicipline and they need to respect and have a sense of American Pride and Patriotism that a lot of young adults lack. The military will shape men and women into fine young individuals that will then feel proud to serve and protect our country. I say Bush should enact the draft as proposed by Sen Charles Rangel.

Want to ensure a major loss for your party in 2008? Institute a draft.

Kids these days. Oddly, I heard this exact same thing said about my generation when I was growing up. And the generation after mine. Strangely, such comments tend to disappear when the "kids" turn into adults. Because, lo and behold, they grow up.

There might be plenty of reasons to institute a draft. "Instilling discipline in these lazy kids" isn't one of them.

No one should be forced to fight if they do not volunteer for it, unless the physical territory of the country in endangered by foreign invasion. If you really wanted to institute a draft to help whip kids into shape, then you should at least have the decency to give them training and put them to domestic work, not send them to Iraq. I staunchly oppose any kind of this forced labor/service. Besides, we have plenty of volunteers in Iraq, and people should quit complaining that we have troops there, and the troops that are complaining should shut up and accept the fact that they made a bad decision. Don't say you didn't know what you were getting into when you joined the army.

And I'm guessing in that case you won't even need it.

I would gladly serve if my own country was invaded. It's in my own interest.

I don't believe in the draft.
I believe in personal choice.

I guess under extreme duress our Nation might bring back conscription, but until then, it should be a voluntary system.

Just my 2 cents.

By the time they're seventeen or so, it's too late to "instill values", and that's not the government's job to do so at any age.

Chuck is envisioning an Americorps kind of thing, with compulory national service for both men and women. Pass!
