"explosive hexogen detected on plane parts is the same type that Russian officials reported being used in earlier attacks by Chechen separatists.

On an Internet site connected to Islamic extremists, a statement from a militant group said the planes were attacked in retaliation for Russia's war in the predominantly Muslim region of Chechnya and warned it was only the first in a series of planned operations. There was no way to check the claim's authenticity.

The official announcement that terrorists had struck Russia's civil aviation industry - an essential transport sector for this vast nation - prompted only a low-key response. The government avoided drastic measures such as closing airspace or grounding flights, and President Vladimir Putin made no public comment on the evidence of explosives.

Analysts said the government was trying to avoid an embarrassing admission that Chechen separatists had succeeded again in striking at Russia - just days before a Sunday election in Chechnya to replace the small republic's assassinated pro-Kremlin president."

If that is what you would like the world to do, then define Terrorism - tell me who the good guys and bad guys are

Ie: is that the Catholics in Ireland who are fighting from the Oppression of the Birtish Government?

Is it the Chinese Government that have imprisoned and abused the people of Tibet?

Is it the Kurds, or the Palestinians, or the Isrealese or the Sudanese?

Remember - One mans Terrorism is another mans vigilantes
Hmmm.....don't really get what you're saying here. Are you saying that two Islamic women getting onboard 2 different planes with plastic explosives strapped around their waists....and blowing the plane and everybody in it to bits IS NOT TERRORISM???? Let's not confuse the issue here. I think most people know what I'm referring to.

and My question to you is what is Terrorism? I think it's a misguided, tragic political statement. I do not condone it or justify it, but for some identifiable groups, it is their only way to be heard by an oppressive regime.

So what war would you like the rest of the world to fight? Knock down those people that are being abused by their governments, or encourage those certain governments to be accountable for their mistreatment of their people?

Terrorism has been around for a long time. But using a single incident as an excuse to attack and take over a whole unrelated country is unprecendented. Fighting terrorism is fighting and stoping individual people, like stopping bank robbers, not governments and armies. You don't take over a random country because a few people did something crazy.

You nailed it. That's why I have such a hard time with people telling other countries to "get on board the War on terror" - If the Palestinians and Israeli's jumped on Bush's bandwagon to fight the "War on terror" for example - who would be the good guy and bad guy? - To each other, they are both terrorists. To many, some, (whatever) the Americans are the terrorists in Iraq for invading their country without just cause- so who decides who's right or wrong?

Taking on " The War on Terror" is such a simplistic, ignorant ideology for such a complex problem. That's why the concept was Kyboshed when Reagen and Bush Sr. used it as an excuse to invade Nicaragua only to turn around and commit some of the most horrendous crimes against humanity.
It's bogus, and won't resolve anything.

But then again, those 3 words makes for some GREAT propaganda...

Default But wait! Michael Moore said...

...there is no terrorist threat. So here is my theory on what happened to the Russian airliners: Fahrenheit 9/11 was being shown both planes, and all the
passengers' heads exploded simultaneously!

Funny -

But FYI - MM meant that there was no terrorist threat by the Iraqis against the US. Russia has had a series of internal terrorist activities, specifically around elections (specifically Chechnya). This Terrorist act in Russia is teh equivalent to the extremist IRA in N. Ireland, and the Basque seperatists in Spain - Not the same as Al Qaeda.
