Groups like the KKK and the Nazis have given the Confederate flag a bad name, but what's this really about? The group putting up the flag is the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Yes, their ancestors fought a war too, for what they perceived as right - A weak Federal government, with the states having most of the rights.

No matter how the image of the Confederate flag may appear in the eyes of some, those who are putting it up deserve the right to fly it in honor of their own forefathers. I am sorry that some are offended, but that is really irrelevant. This is a part of our history. If you want to go after rascism in the United States, attacking those who only want to pay respects to their own heritage is not the way to do it. Go after the rascists themselves, who brought dishonor to that flag. Going after what many perceive as a legitimate way to honor their forefathers is dishonest.

This just proves you limited bias view of American society. The fact remains that slavery was a side not of the war. I dislike slavery alot, but this doesn't mean I can't honor my forefathers who died fighting for the South during the Civil War. The war was about states rights and it is terrible that my ancestors chose slavery to fight about it, but the primary goal of the war was to highlight the fact that the Federal government had ignored states rights.

So how dare you disgrace my ancestors! The war was about states rights, slavery was a sidenote, it was the stand we decided to take to back an idea espoused by the Founding Fathers!

The Confedracy was fighting for infringement on their rights as state government by the Federal. It is sad they chose slavery but it's a war that needs to be fought today, that is, the realignment of political power in America to the states.
