Like Prayer in school and Creationism as a science?

Liouisiana-Oilman, yes, I thought before that exposing people to Islam will likely result in SOME people converting to Islam...but not too many, I'd argue.

I support freedom of speech, so I do *NOT* want Islam banned, or the Quran banned, for example.

When I say "death for apostasy" it's amazing how many educated adults don't know what I'm talking about! So educating these kids about the good and bad things about Islam can only further the debate...this is good.

Unless it's a PC-whitewashed version of Islam that's taught! To properly teach Islam to our kids we'll need to teach them the good (there is definite good to be found) and the bad.

masterproctor, despite the fact that Fauxnews does indeed seem to "get" what the Jihad is all about, I dislike them a bit because they don't appear to be fair and balanced if one defines fair and balanced as mainstream or middle of the road politically....they have a right-wing bias.

But if one takes that bias into account, then I think they are a pretty good news service. I'm not sure I've seen a totally unbiased news site! Especially msnbc.com, which is left-leaning....quite a bit.

I am not vouching for any major-media organization and I hardly think Fox News is a good news service. Neither do I think MSNBC is a good news service nor CNN.

I was just suprised how blatantly they cut out all other view points. If they only showed the beginning of the article, that would have been different, but it seems they selectively picked what sections they wanted.

As far as objectivity, there is no media organization out there that is 100%, and if you ever do find one, please tell me.

As long as it isn't taught as truth I think it's a good idea. Most US citizens don't know much about the actually religion and it's a big problem that has spawned hatred of followers of the Islam faith. Many people in this country are still under the impression that it is written in the Quran that men can and should beat their women. This is entirely incorrect and education is the only thing that can balance misinformation.
What could be better than teaching children about one of the most relevant issues in this country today?
I think it's great.

The good old "unAmerican" argument. Oh how I love that. As if you of all people can dictate what is American and un-American. Wouldn't anything that American citizens do be considered "American"? Maybe you don't put syrup on pancakes--if I do that, am I "unAmerican"?

It takes a special kind of nut-job to start a bloody Jihad and behead infidels. If you didn't notice, there are 1.4 billion Muslims in the world, and only a small percentage of those are doing any actual beheading. Considering there are significantly less American school children than Muslims, the odds are decidedly stacked against 7-year-old Muslim Jihadists.

Sunni Man is happy!!!

Actually, I was never taught the 5 Pillars of Islam while in school (and I should have been), so maybe this is indeed a good idea, as ignorance is rarely a good thing.

The world is getting "smaller" every year, so the more we learn about other cultures, the better.

For instance, many Muslim women won't shake the hand of a man...this is NOT necessarily wrong of them, but what we can all agree on is that if a man doesn't KNOW this then he will mistakenly thing she's "dissing" him personally and not realize it's simply a broad cultural practice of a culture he is unfamiliar with.
