What a outrage. The flag is not a symbol of hate. As La Rep Duke states, The American flag flew along time while slavery existed in this nation compared to to the Confederate Flag. The high school across town where I live are called the Rebels and they fly the flag on the schools flag pole and at football games. The flag is own their helmets along with Johnny Reb like the old Ole Miss Rebels. Why is freedom of expression being taken away from these kids and the public in general? It isn't a symbol of racism but it is a symbol of states that committed treason by trying to secede from the U.S., so in away it is a symbol of treason against this country. That's how I view the flag.


They still should be allowed to graduate. They have the right to voice their opinions as longs it doesn't infringe in the rights of others.

It's only graduation, they will still get their diplomas; it's not like they are being arrested and formally charged with anything.

That said, the confederate flag can symbolize different things to different people. I don't think we can make it a crime to wave that flag, although it definately doesn't promote anything progressive.

It isn't extremely harmful to us as a whole, and by displaying the confederate symbol, at least we can identify those individuals who need our help the most. It's more preferable to allow it than to push it into the shadows where we can't address the problem.

I hope Obama if elected wont try to make flying the Confederate Flag a hate crime. That would not go well with the South. The school principle is wrong to dictate that the flag is hate while others say its not. The ACLU should step in but I wonder why they will not?

I'm not going to lie, I don't defend the school's right to deter the students from graduating. If the students were merely flying the flag in the parking lot, why not let them? Freedom of speech. Of course there's always a little more to these things than is reported, I'd love to hear a full story from multiple sides about this.

IF its all on the up and up then they should sue the school district for discrimination and infrignement of their 1st Ammendment Right to Freedom of Speech...and probably some others as well.

That flag represents to many a symbol of the Southern Heritage Pride of the south. Every festival or function I have ever been to in the southern states has the flag flying or on display for sale as lapel pins patches, etc. It flys at many high schools here in Louisiana and other southern states. Also these kids said they loved the Dukes of Hazard made in Hollywood which always showed the flag. So tell me what this dumb redneck myth is?
