How so? I do believe that not all democrats are socialists. Unfortunately, socialists have hijacked their party, and are now at the helm of that runaway train. However, as long as Obama "isn't Bush," they don't care about the socialist hijacking.

Verry true. The democratic party is moving further and further to the left to boarderline/full socialism. And the american people are too stupid to see this happining. A well respected man among socialist once said that America will reject any thing brought fourth in the form of socialism. However under the name of liberalism they would welcome the same plan with open arms! How true this is today!

Anyone who has that intention for America is just plain un-American.

The consequences of socializing anything can range from ineffectiveness of the particular industry to its complete collapse under state control. Seeing as the oil business is vital to the entire functioning of the American economy (proof is seen in the effect high gasoline prices are having on the economy), anyone seeking a policy that would render this industry ineffective or useless is attempting to destroy the economy, which in turn will destroy our country as we know it.

This is what it's all about people, Maxine Waters and her Democrat Friends in congress, might as well call themselves the Socialist Democrat Party.

Let me ask each and every one of you a question though, from the shameful treatment of veterans at the VA Hospitals to Drivers License Offices, to the Social Security Administration. When was the last time you were in a Government Run building, where you though to yourself. Wow, this place is very professional. I like they way they run this place?

Just in case there are any of you out there still doubting if this would be the best thing, just look at what Mexico is having to do, after years of using the Oil company as Cash a Cow, and not re-investing any money into drilling and Exploration. As a matter of fact, Mexico went from Exporting Gas, to Importing Gas, because they've run out of Capacity! It's even estimated that if Mexico doesn't do something very quickly, they may run out of Oil in as little as a Decade! Let's face it, What the hell does the Government know about running an Oil Company? They can't even get their own house in order, with their "Off the Books" spending and inability to balance their checkbooks.

Think that Mexico is an Isolated Case?

Venezuela was in Private hands until 1974, when the Government decided to nationalize it (during the last oil crisis). From there in went into steady decline until they decided to do some partnerships with private firms who had the expertise they needed to develop their Heavy Oil Fields, (heavy as in Heavy with Sulfur). Exxon alone invested over a Billion dollars in this program and helped make Venezuela a World Player. Now with the rest of their business in a free fall, Chavez has decided to re-nationalize the 13 Billion in Private investments made by Exxon, BP and others. It's nothing more than a money grab. If they would have managed the company properly, they wouldn't need outsiders to come in and build these facilities for them. Can you imagine say Exxon going to BP and saying, "Hey can you build some refineries for us, we have no idea WTF we're doing here?" I fear that is exactly what would end up happening if our government ended up taking over the Oil business. As it is, Venezuela's State Run Oil field production is down about 50% and declining.

Argentina is another country who's production is way down, after nationalizing.

As for the Middle East and Africa, well first of all, almost all the Oil in these places is processed with help from U.S. or British Companies, because our private companies are the ones with the Expertise in getting the job done. If the U.S. Government were to privatize these companies, I can guarantee you that in a few years, British Petroleum and Royal Dutch Shell, will be about the ONLY international Oil Companies getting the big deals around the world, as our companies go into a perpetual state of decline.

The second point, more importantly is that in every case, in every one of these countries that have privatized their Oil businesses. Do you see a bulging Middle Class? Do you see prosperity anywhere at the level that we enjoy here in the U.S.? Life in the vast majority of these countries is absolutely miserable, Nigeria is on the verge of tearing itself apart. In the vast majority of the people live in tiny State Owned "Apartments" the size of our Closets here in the U.S. In Argentina, the average person spends half their money on food, forget about doing things like, oh, I don't know, going to a Movie!

America is not a Socialist country, this is why the only democrats who ever win, are democrats who SOUND like Republicans (Hello Bill Clinton - Low taxes, Free Trade, Welfare Reform, Era of Big Government Over - Sounds Republican).

Part of being in a free society is that a person is allowed to be a socialist, a conservative, an anarchist, a zealot, anti-authoritarian, or whatever he or she wants.

That goes for public and private sectors.
