They were misled by their leaders. Not their fault. How many of us, including the president and congress, believed in the WMDs?

No excuse to drop a bomb on them.

Um...WMDs were a part of Saddam's terroristic arsenal. Just last week we disposed of over 500 tons of Saddam's weapons grade uranium.....

It has nothing to do with a 'belief' and everything to do with 'fact'.

Children are innocent.

And what do 30 million Chinese have to do with any of this? The Japanese aren't responsible for that.

Those "Japs" were innocent and did not deserve to die, but anyone who thinks that the Japanese suffered more because of those bombs than they would have otherwise is mistaken. Millions of Japanese and not to mention American troops would have been killed if we had tried to invade, which would would surely have had to do because they weren't going to surrender.

The Japanese people were basically brainwashed by their government and their emporer in World War 2. There were mass suicides on island the Americans invaded, whole towns including schoolchildren who stood in circles around grenades and blew themselves to peices because the "demon" Americans who were coming to slaughter and rape them.

The war in the Pacific was a long, slow, bloody affair that could have gone on for decades if it weren't for the atomic bombs. When you look at the cost in lives of battles like Iwo Jima you can imagine only a sliver of the horror fighting on mainland Japan would have been. It would have been war on a scale even the Russians couldn't imagine.

In World War 2 the atomic bombs saved millions of lives and since the war they've led to smaller, more contained wars and if we're lucky and can manage to keep them out of the hands of madmen (no small feat, I admit), they're going to be the end of war on the scale of the world wars.

I'd be willing to bet nukes are the only thing that kept the cold war from going hot.

Oh yeah I forgot about the recently discovered yellowcake. More proof that we're products of our governments and what they choose to tell us. How much media coverage did that get? Barely any. I saw Jesse Jackson simulate a castration more frequently than I saw them removing the stuff. I bet the Chinese like China too. Doesn't mean we should disregard innocent people as mere necessary casualties in a time a war.

And Germany also. They actually started far ahead of anyone, but they thought it would take too many years to develop, so they put more money into their mlitary than developing nukes.

Also, you've heard our program was called the "Manhattan Project", but it wasn't just a few men in the Nevada desert. It had more men and a bigger budget than all the big three automakers combined, and was in over thirty locations in several states.
