Default Bush administration to send envoy to talk with Iran

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...l?hpid=topnews

Seems like a huge break from past policy, and would probably go a long way in calming down oil prices.

I don't know enough about the situation to have a legitimate opinion but do you seen anything coming out of this? You've got a bit of a unique perspective on it.

Also, how willing to negotiate do you think Iran is? Regardless of the US, how reasonable of an offer would the Iranians take, and what COULD we offer them, besides reducing sanctions?

So much for "not negotiating"

My concern is what will the Necon-artists have to say about the POTUS sending an diplomate to sit down and talk with the enemy. If a Demonkrat had suggested such a thing he would be labled a traitor, an appeaser ( as a NECON talk show freak called Obama), a wimp oh my!!! What will happen to the world's opinion of American men now that The Shrub is sending a talker to speak with one of the axis of evil !!

Nothing will come out of the talks this weekend, but that's not the point. The very fact that there will be talks with the 3rd ranking guy from the US State Department is itself a huge breakthrough. Iran has all along been willing to negotiate, and with each Neo-Con that leaves the administration, the more possible it becomes for a US-Iran reproachment to take place.

This is the problem with you people. You have no idea about any of the intelligence, pre-conditions that have been set or capitulation that Iran may have given. The problem with Barack is he will negotiate without pre-conditions. GW has been steadfast in his leadership and has not broken from his principles, so I am guessing because I too lack all the facts, that he has what he needs in order to move forward.

Liberals wouldn't understand that because in all things they lack conviction.

This will actually help Obama. Obama never said that he would negotiate with Iran. He said that he'd sit down and talk with them. Because John McCain argued against this so much, now that the sit down is happening, it will help him.

Well when as a precondition for negotiation you ask the other party to surrender the best thing they can offer you're not going to go very far, are you?

I've seen old ladies at the flea market haggle with more sense than that.

Why does everything have to be seen though a liberal/conservative prism?

The fact that the Bush administration is withing to talk is important. It should have been done long ago. Any talk is good. In my opinion it is silence that breeds distrust on both sides.
