I am not sure how to get that much groceries for so little money to begin with but possibly they were buying a lot of those "oodles of noodles" packages, cans of chef boyardee, boxes of mac and cheese etc.

I think its easier to get fat if you have less money and dont have a proper education in nutrition (which is lacking).

I would love to see them offer (and even require) some classes in nutrition and grocery shopping for those who recieve food stamps. It can be expensive to eat healthy BUT if you really learn about food and how to prepare the healthy food, you can reduce your costs.

Fresh fruits and veg are always a bit pricey BUT frozen can be a bit less money AND be a bit better in nutrition (fun fact I learned). Dry beans, bulgar, quinoa, spelt, oats etc are not very expensive at all. You can also go vegetarian which is better for environment and certainly better for the animals you stop eating!

I cant feel hostile towards these people...being fat and poor is certainly punishment enough and people in such a position are people who have given up hope most likely.

That is hilarious! Those girls are HUGE! Can't afford food... Give me a break.

Get on a diet!!!! Now they'll end up having health problems due to their obesity and charge Medicaid.

I guess higher food prices might actually be a benefit to some people.

For the record, the article never stated that they spend $100 a week on groceries. Makkede just assumed that and the rest of you took her word for it.

Judging from the fact that they receive $102 of food stamps, and that such figures are usually counted on a monthly basis, it's very likely that they are spending $100 a month on food.

Poor people buy food with little or no nutritional value because that's the cheap food. It leaves the needs of their bodies unfulfilled and therefore they feel they must eat more. And if all they eat is that cheap crap, it's a catch 22. The more they eat the fatter and unhealthier they get.

but it's so much easier making fun of the poor instead of trying to figure out what causes them to be in that condition
