God forgives,
but society shouldn't.

You should not be around children in any position of authority, once convicted
of a drug related offense so serious as to warrant prison time.

This is nothing personal against you...
I'd say the same for anyone w/ similar circumstances.
Nor am I trying to slander your character, you had previously admitted to serving time
in prison.
Ridiculous. He never should have served time for this. If he didn't initiate force, fraud or coercion against anyone else, then he didn't commit a real crime. If there was no victim, there can be no crime. The government has no legitimate authority over adult individuals engaged in peaceful, honest, voluntary activities.

Of course, there are certain crimes that will keep a person from ever getting a teaching job, violent crimes, rape, and such, but thankfully those in charge of New Jersey aren't dumb enough to actually believe that someone who chooses to go to jail rather than pay a fine he can't afford is unfit to be a teacher.

Besides, I don't think there's a epidemic of ex-cons trying to get into the education system.
I wasn't aware of the details of your jail time.
I think with this newly acquired knowledge, I would agree that in your
specific case, it wasn't very serious.

I was locked up for 6 hours for exceeding the speed limit in Flagstaff, AZ...doing 112 mph in a 65 mph zone and having out-of-state plates. I had the ticket reduced to 15 over the speed limit.

Technically, I'm a jail bird also.

I've posted quite a bit. I can't complain if someone takes me to task on what I've
openly admitted. So short of lying about stuff, I take folks at their word. Therefore
I stand by my comment that folks who've served time in jail have no business
teaching children. I don't care why they got locked up.
That is my opinion, and the topic is our failing school system.
I've pointed out that maybe this is another reason why our schools are failing.
Nobody cares about the teacher's character.
Nobody cares about character anymore, in anything.

You choose to take my stance personally.
with your indicated degree of intolerance of anything which does not fit your personal moral code, and your willingness to serve authority only because it happens to be the authority into which you were born, it is a very good thing you were not around in 1776. those traits would have gotten you tarred and feathered ... unless you retreated to mother england

from what i have seen of joker's posts, society is fortunate to have someone such as he, who truly cares about kids, teaching them. i have never seen a good teacher who had no use for the students they taught, but have known lots of awful teachers with that characteristic. we have a shortage of GOOD teachers. there is no reason to set an arbitrary and capricious benchmark which would disqualify the good and able and willing teachers
