I know why we don't monopolies, but how does taxing profits preventing them forming? Furthermore there is competition in the oil industry.

BTW, I don't agree with the profits tax, but I do think we should stop giving oil companies billions in tax breaks.
I agree here, but if we don't offer them tax incentives it's hard to keep them within our borders since we have one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world.

This is the key right here. We need our corporations to stay at home, and higher taxes would give them no reason to stick around. Plus, giving them tax breaks keeps them from raising prices even more.

Tax profits doesn't keep them from forming, I did not mean to post that and I was wrong.

The largest profits in US history should be incentive enough. If you want to cut corporate taxes across the board then go ahead but we shouldn't be just randomly handing out massive tax cuts to highly profitable industries.

I'm a fair tax supporter and by virtue of that I don't believe in corporate taxes. They can't pay taxes anyway, they just take the taxes applied to them, turn around and build them into the costs of the good/service and the end consumers foots the bill.

Just remember in Merica, anyone even the poor can live off the fat of the land and become obese. As far as windfall proftis, why should the government gett windfall tax profits, if they want to take away the windfall profits, then they should have to hand them over to anyone that actually pays taxes, i.e. not those 2 slobs that don't work and live off my hard earned dime.
