Default Cheney: eBay will save us!

You just can't make this stuff up!!!

Cheney: Economic Stats Miss EBay Sales

Associated Press

CINCINNATI - Indicators measure the nation's unemployment rate, consumer spending and other economic milestones, but Vice President Dick Cheney says it misses the hundreds of thousands who make money selling on eBay.

"That's a source that didn't even exist 10 years ago," Cheney told an audience in Ohio. "Four hundred thousand people make some money trading on eBay."

Just when you think you've heard it all...

You know, with all of these great EBAY "jobs", and all the great "manufacturing" jobs (formerly called burger-flipping before Bush), and all of those great jobs at Wal-Mart, I'm surprised there's any unemployment at all!

This is just another example of an administration completely out of touch with the economic realities of the people they represent.

Default And who should we thank for this?

We should all stop right now and fire off a thank you email to Al Gore for having created the internet in the first place, that's who.

Default Why is this such a stretch?

After the company I worked for went Belly up. I did the E-bay thing. I was making very good money part time, until I opened my own business. (which is not e-bay) I had talked to A lot of E-Bay people. This was there full time job, and they loved it. There are now businesses that are totally tied into the E-bay thing. You can make Huge money at it if you do it Full Time. Many people do. Just because YOU don't do it, then its not considered a Business or a way to make money? I know many people that quit there jobs in the computer industry and are doing the E-bay thing Full Time. They make more money now then they did when the computer industry was going in the toilet in 99' 00'.

Default I wonder...

... if Cheney has heard about how much money can be made stuffing envelopes? I get emails about this all the time, and as soon as I get caught up with investigating the offers to enhance a certain part of my anatomy, and the best place on the Web to buy Viagra, I'm gonna look into this envelope-stuffing carrer.

...sure would be nice to have someone like Al pushing things like technology and the internet again, instead of the likes of the current administration. Their idea of hi-tech is building MOABs (Mother Of All Bombs).

Haha. Nice job in changing the subject. We should thank all those Republicans who increased the defense budgets for creating the Internet, I guess. At least some good came out of the US military.

eBay does seem like a valid alternative for social security and unemployment benefits, huh?

I don't think "Thanking the Republicans" is quite appropriate (although making a sarcastically stupid comment like that probably makes you feel Thmart!!)

You actually DO have the Government/Military contracts with a group of Universities to thank for the Internet! It grew from a creation called "Arpanet" that was funded by the Military.

Quote:
The global Internet's progenitor was the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) of the U.S. Department of Defense. This is an important fact to remember, because the support and style of management by ARPA was crucial to the success of ARPANET. As the Internet develops and the struggle over the role the Internet plays unfolds, it will be important to remember how the network developed and the culture that it was connected with....

...A climate of pure research surrounded the entire history of the ARPANET. The Advanced Research Projects Agency was formed with an emphasis towards research, and thus was not oriented only to a military product. The formation of this agency was part of the U.S. reaction to the then Soviet Union's launch of Sputnik in 1957. (ARPA draft, III-6). ARPA was assigned to research how to utilize their investment in computers via Command and Control Research (CCR).

Golly Gee!!! Seems like that WAS a Republican administration in 1957!!!!
