Yes, DU ammunition is used. But, I'd like to see some real solid evidence in the form of published reports from scientists and doctors a like that state DU ammo is the cause of all that stated in the Aljazeera story.

From first hand experience with DU ammunition while I worked as a tech for the Mk 15 Close In Weapons System, Not one of any of my techs or people who handled this type of ammunition on an almost daily basis have had or currently have any sort of medical problems...

Depleted Uranium dangerous? Nah. I am sure that it is perfectly safe. The increase in birth defects and cancers in all the places where these weapons have been used it just a coincidence, I am sure. And, Gulf War syndrome is just a figment of the soldier's imaginations.

In all honesty the health impact of DU exposure can not be validated at this point. I think that there needs to be some actual research into the matters by trusted scientists. Let them take on the task and conduct their studies to tell the health risks associated with the use of DU. Till that time, it (the health risks of exposure to DU) is nothing more than conjecture.

The government claims to care about the soldiers, but it is making them use munitions that may be killing them and deforming their children (not to mention innocent civilians). The only thing the government can say is "that there is no evidence that DU is dangerous to the soldiers" but I think before we use substances, we should make sure that they are not dangerous to our soldiers.

The fact is that the government claimed that Agent Orange didn't harm the soldiers or innocent civilians and now they are claiming the same about DU. If Americans care about the soldiers as much as they claim to, why aren't more people demanding that the government either (1) prove the safety of DU, or (2) stop using it? Why do we claim that we care and then dismiss claims of Gulf War Syndrome and other assorted diseases and birth deformities?
