Default Good news from Iraq

Here's a link to a site that talks of actual good news that is coming out of Iraq. If you want bad news, turn on your television and watch any news channel or read the liberal leaning posts on this bulletin board.

Here's the link:

http://windsofchange.net/archives/005438.php

Quote:
Reporting from Iraq often reminds one of the old adage about the glass - in Iraq it seems to be half-empty at best; at worst, broken, with water fast sipping into the sand. The past two weeks have not been an exception. Whether covering the on-again off-again al Sadr uprising in Najaf (the glass half-full, excessively stirred), latest kidnappings (the glass missing altogether), interruptions in oil production (glass half-empty, but priced as if full), or the meeting of the Iraqi National Conference (too many half empty glasses, all clinking together), there was no escaping the continuing negativity of the mainstream media coverage.

Experts might debate exactly how much water there is in the Iraqi glass, but there is little doubt that - yet again - while the cameras and microphones were pointing towards the carnage, violence and corruption, Iraq has continued its slow and steady march out of its three-decades long nightmare into a much more normal tomorrow. Below are some of the positive developments and good news stories of the past fortnight that for most part received very little media attention. It's a pity because the story of "Iraq, the phoenix rising from the ashes" is in many ways a lot more interesting, not to say consequential, than the usual steady media diet of "Iraq, the Wild East."
The writer covers a good set of categories such as: Sports, Society, Economy, Reconstruction, Coalition Troops, Diplomacy & Security

Outside View: The good news from Iraq

By Bill Owens
A UPI Outside View commentary

New York, NY, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- With election season now fully begun, and the decibel level of political rhetoric at full blast, Americans cannot be blamed for not having heard some of the good news about the war in Iraq.

Default The effects of Farenheit 9/11 on our troops

http://www.conspiracyplanet.com/chan...contentid=1432

This news isn't so good, but it illustrates how the effects of Michael Moore's film undermine the military's job, and our soldiers who are laying their lives on the line... even to protect Michael Moore's freedom of speech.

It reminds me of Viet Nam, the flowering of the Liberal modern movement. Now the liberal elite are saying it's just another Viet Nam, and are doing their best to make sure that's just what happens.

Quote:
Lt. Bischoff is so angry he could explode. He knows Moore's work is based on lies and distortions, but as he says, "the damage is done." Clearly, this is the type of thing we expect from angry leftists like Moore. What we didn't expect was the full impact this film is now having and how it has been embraced and supported by so many Hollywood elites. Lt. Bischoff says Moore's film is a work of deception, lies and distortions that when seen by those unfamiliar w/ the issues involved, has the effect of attacking the American peoples' resolve and focus in this war.

The past two weeks have not been an exception, with the news from Iraq dominated by more hostage crises, the oil shock, continuing terrorist campaign and a sequel to the Shia uprising. Good news, once again, was few and far between. Yet progress continues to be made on the ground in Iraq, even during the most dangerous of times and often against the odds that we - so insulated by the safety, comfort and predictability of life in the West - can hardly even begin to comprehend.

To hear John Kerry talk.....none of this has even been started.

If we can just get those 3 or 4 hotspots under control...and kill that basturd Al Zarqawi, I think Iraq can have a chance.

Default Oh noooo not the Freeper!

http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/989608/posts

Quote:
Last month, in the first polling of free Iraqis ever done, the respected pollster, John Zogby, asked a wide rang of Iraqi citizens their thoughts on the U.S., the coalition's occupation, and Iraq's future.

Those polled didn't predict a quagmire. By an overwhelming margin (nearly 70 percent), they expected their country to be better off over the next five years. There was little love for Saddam Hussein. An overwhelming 74 percent wanted members of his regime captured and punished.

Hatred for the U.S.? While skeptical of America's ability to be a positive long-term influence, nearly 60 percent wanted U.S. troops to remain for one year or longer. Asked to pick which country they wanted Iraq to model its government on, the United States came in first. Sadly, half of those polled doubted democracy could exist in the Arab world, perhaps because it never has. (I tend to believe what George Washington once wrote: "Liberty, when it begins to take root, is a plant of rapid growth.")

Default Interesting

"Over 60 000 Iraqis now provide security to their fellow citizens"

I don't care about numbers. I care about their courage and effectiveness. Does this number mean we can now remove 60,000 of our troops?

A USA today poll found 6-8 out of 10 Iraqi's hated us, BUT, they did want us to stick around and protect them.

Institutions have been known to function even under terrible conditions like a Civil War. That fact that Iraq's institutions are prospering is an OK sign BUT, the U.S. is paying a high price for their security, in Blood.

Perhaps, but you must remember the world is an ecosystem. All parts must be in sync to function properly. Especially in modern times when distances between everyone is shrinking.. Whatever happens there affects the rest of the world. Same goes with any place on the globe. Otherwise it would be easy to say let them deal with it themselves... So the price in blood is worth it in the long run.
