Our Nation
At what point did we the people lose control of those that govern us? It seems shameful that we have allowed those in office to squander our nation’s sovereignty in order to continuously partake of the fruit that has placed us in our present situation. At some point, “we the people”, those that are to truly govern in a Republican society, must rise up. Yes, we must take care not to place all the blame on the elected officials; after all, we assisted in some way or another at placing them, either through inactivity or by vote, into their current position. And by those means are we to take back the beloved country for which our founders risked everything.
Our nation’s current government is in obvious decay. There will be those that put into motion the positive spin that keeps us “dumb, fat and happy”; while at the same time trading away the great hope this once thoughtful nation offered, for the pleasures of the present. Where are the statesmen of old; those that placed God, country and their fellow man before personal gain? They are hidden, afraid and forced into believing that their voices are being silenced by a government and corporate entanglement of historic proportions.
Never before in the history of this nation have corporate interests and that of personal political gain been in such control of the future of our children and our children’s children. The government corporate machine has thus forced the hand of the people it “serves” to take back what was fought for, bled for and sacrificed for. Why should we, citizens of these United States, be forced to choose between the lesser of two evils time and time again? When will we take off the blinders, turn off our televisions and computers, remove the phones from our faces and face the reality that only by returning to that from which we came can we reconcile this nation to its once brilliant beacon in a dark world. To continue down a path of destruction in the name of “progress” is foolish. Only when we realize that we have veered in the wrong direction can we turn back and return to the point of our greatness to set a new path; a path that will lead to meaningful progress for all people.
The light of this nation relies on the people, us, to stand up and rekindle the flame of freedom for our future generations to be guided by. To do this we must organize our efforts, regardless of party, and demand that our voices be heard and that our representation at the federal, state and local levels be held accountable for whatever detestable or heroic deeds they accomplish on their watch of “our” government. This is the only one of many actions we must pursue to return this nation to the honorable place it once held, and by God and the people, will hold again.
