You are looking at the statement made by Huey p Newton. The statement was meant to instill a pride in a segment of the population that had been held down since the beginning. Now the statement sounds out of context because the black cultural revolution happened. The commuity has a sense of we are people. There is nothing wrong with trying ti instill in people a sense of dignity and pride.

The gay pride movement does the same thing.

The white people have not lived in a minority position. They have always been on top. They have a right to pride as well. The KKK pride pushes others down. The Blacl Panthers lifted up the many. They worked across the racial lines with Black, Hispanic, Oriental, amd white children. They crossed the color line often.

Just happens to be the truth. History is told by the winners. It has been distorted over the years. the good that was done bt the Chicago faction of the Black Panthers far outweighs any bad they did here. They were always under the watch of police. The headquarters always had police cars circling around it. The building on Monroe street had police patroling up and down the block on foot. They harassed everyone that came and went from that location. I was searched several times going in and coming out. I am white they didn't trust the white hippie chick either.

They did good all history that J. Edgar Hoover wanted us to believe is these people were not under the thumb of government and could not be trusted.

Well by white do you mean italians,Greeks,Jews and Poles who definately know what being a minority is like, and for a better part of a century didnt know what being on top means.

I mean the white majority in the US. I do realize that white people of many ethnic groups have been picked on. I am just as appalled by that. I made the statement the majority whites to state a difference in the way blacks have and in many ways still are by many not all whites. I was one of the few white people that actually worked with the Panthers in Chicago. I can agree with you that not all whites have lived the priveleged life.

I think if you look you will see many differences between the CA Panthers who were far more militant than the Chicago faction. They both did good things but Chicago was basicly non violent.

It was not long after the death of Fred Hampton that other groups and movements started in the black power front in Chicago. Jesse Jackson started used Fred's word Rainbow Coalition to start a political party. On the South Side of Chicago in the communities the food programs still do a great job. It is the legacy of the short-lived Black Panthers that touched the city in many ways. It is often seen just for a few militant activities. To many times do we not see the toil of the good but for a few whom take on the violent roles.

Fred Hampton will always have a place in history I hope he is remembered well.

(*)(*)(*)(*) this threads harsh. What's wrong with pride that they are finally gaining some form of equality in a society and culture that has rejected and actively destroyed what culture they had? Only about 100 years ago black people were thought to be evolutionarily inferior because of the size and shape of their skulls. These days, there's a huge money making subculture that is thriving BECAUSE we oppressed them and attempted to destroy their culture and heritage.

If this is a problem for you, you can blame your (*)(*)(*)(*)ty ancestors for forcing them into submission, thus forcing them to retain the only connection to others that they had - black pride (see also: [any ethnicity] pride).

It was Martin Luther King Jr and Ralph Abernathy with the Poor Peoples Campaign that brought the problems of poverty in the country to our eyes. They did not ask but demanded aid to the poorest of Americans.

The contrbutions by blacks to America are so lost. We forget the Poor Peoples Campaign and Resurrection City where many lived. It is the activist black in America that have always pointed us in the direction of the needy.

The blacks in Anerica have to be proud that though all of the struggle they have come to a point that can change America for good. The election of Obama will be the closing of a door on America's past. The hopes and dreams of so many will be realized. I know a lot of people look back at the great accomplishment that was Jackie Robinson in baseball. Barak Obama has walked to the door of politics and is knocking. I for one will do all I can to open that door.
