Their non-hybrid gets 31 which is better than most cars in its class. Better than the Accord and Altima. Let's see what Motor Trend has to say.

Versus the Accord: Whether it's the curvaceous sheetmetal and 18-inch alloys or the paddle shifters and ergonomically sound layout of the luxurious interior, the Malibu emerges as the more engaging of the two. On a curvy road, the Chevy heightens the fun factor, providing superior ride composure, the ability to perform fingertip shifts, and communicative, albeit slightly heavy, steering that carves tighter, crisper lines. Hop on the highway, and the Malibu continues to separate itself, delivering a softer, quieter ride and power that, while down 14 horses, seems to pull more strongly and naturally..."This is a great car, period."

Anything else? Like more dishonest comparisons of diesel versus non-diesel engines? Or compact versus mid-size cars?

How about the fact that 40 years ago there were carburetors out there that could get 100 miles per gallon but it was jointly decided by car manufacturers not to use them in cars anymore. Think big oil had anything to do with that? Try considering the fact that a drop in the bucket profit margin on the sale of 10 new vehicles is nothing compared to what big oil could shell over in "research" money to new car manufacturers per 10 cars sold. Think that has anything to do with the 'efficiency' of modern cars? What about quality of automobiles. Is there a reason that any new car is unfixable by a normal human being and is bound to fail on you completely within about 10 years? 30 years ago anyone with a Jr. High education could learn how to maintenance their own vehicle cheaply and for the long term. It comes as no surprise that they want you to buy again soon. What a scam. They deserve to go out of business. If houses fell completely apart after 5 years or if home repair like paint jobs, light bulb replacement and simple toilet fixes required computer diagnostics and cost thousands of dollars, the market would be in worse conditions than they are now, and people would be living in tents or log cabins. Car companies are doing even worse things than home manufacturers. I personally have no sympathy.
