Default Don't Leave The Charitable Groups High And Dry!!

This is a thread that is not meant to create much discussion or debate. This is about charitable groups across the country who are beginning to feel the economical pinch like most everyone else. The difference is their mission supports the needy and poor and disenfranchised and in many cases have become the sole providers for these people.

This past weekend we attended such an event and the attendance was way down from past events. It made me think about in America one of the things we do well is we look out for other people...we pitch in to help when we are needed, we remove barriers and obstacles for others to flourish, and we dig deep for our pennies and dollars in time of need. We do this even when we are also feeling the pinch.

I was thinking about how pathetic it is that we as a nation are spending over $1 BILLION to elect a president, and how this money does little to provide jobs or help anyone. It would be great that each time a person sends in $25 to their presidential or Congressional candidate, that they also send $25 to a charitable organization.

This thread is simply a reminder to people on both sides of the aisle, to those who hate the words I write, to my friends, etc. to remember to provide as much support as possible to our citizens...

Great thread my friend, while i have contributed substantially to my candidates campaign i still dig a little deeper to donate money and time to charitable organizations.

Unfortunately not to many people can afford to do the same but it does speak volumes for where the priorities lie in this country.

I am happy to give to charitible groups who receive no funds under the so-called "faith-based" intiatives of the current administration.

Like others I believe that giving to charities is very important. While I don't really consider giving to charities as being political it would certainly be hypocritical for me as a basic Libertarian to not actively support charities.

Perhaps it would be good for each of us to identify those charities which we believe in and support. Others might notice one that they would also support and could donate as well. I have two long standing charities and one recent charity that I have supported this year.

The Seattle Childrens Hospital - I have supported them for years. If anyone that has a Childrens Hospital in their area I urge you to please support it.

Habitate for Humanity - Not only do I like their goals but I also like their methods for helping people into home ownership.

Breast Cancer Research - I have a friend that is recovering from breast cancer and decided to support it this year for her sake. It is a good cause, as are virtually all medical charities.

Nice post Shiva_TD

We support local organizations where we can see our money go directly to a recipient or cause with no middle-man. Anything to do with kids, schools, parks, public gardens, the senior center, the food bank, Hospice, the library.

Although not necessarily charitable, we also support farmer's markets, biodynamic farming, Slow Food USA, and most anything that protects our pristine vineyard properties and rural lifestyle...
