Default Obama Lay Out New Economic Stimulus Plans

Today, Obama rolled out a new economic stimulus plan. The new plan would cost $60 billion over the next two years. The main points of the plan include:

- 90-day moratorium on foreclosures for homeowners making good-faith efforts to pay their mortgage.

- $3,000 tax credit for companies for each new job created in the U.S. over the next two years.

- Penalty free withdrawals from 401(k) and IRA retirement accounts up to$10,000 for the next two years.

I think this is a good start. I know McCain is also reworking the dialogue of his campaign. I heard his new stump speech today. It sounds much better than previous speeches. I still think anything can happen in this election.

how about eliminating the Income tax, enact a consumption tax and put a constitutional limit on it. Start backing our money with gold again. Let the businesses with bad ethics fail, then our economy will be strong again. Taxation and hand outs are never the answer. It only makes you more people more dependent on a government whos very nature is corrupt.

Yeah, anything, like proposing silly new incentives like 90 day moratoriums in a market where there supposedly already is a shortage of cash on hand. That ought to help out alot.

Good idea and much much less expensive than McCain's plan that the taxpayer cover the cost of failed mortgages.

Smart - most new jobs are created by small and medium sized businesses where 3K per hire means something. Great economic boost.

Good idea - don't punish Joe Six-Pack for having to dig into savings because the economy is screwed up by others.

Tax fee withdrawals is silly, the market is hurting as it is. Let's provide policy that incents the creation of more pain. 401k loans are already readily available if someone needs the money.

This will undermine any confidence left in the mortgage industry. Foreclosure is something that neither the banks nor the lendees want, but it is the only tool of last resort the bank has. Now you are adding 3 months to an already extensive process.

Once again, will this not support a flood of investment securities on the market. This will then force the market further down, not to mention a drying up of investment capital. This natural affect will then force others to lock in a solid loss with the sell of their 401k. I have never heard of such an idea to take out a long term investment for the future, to further burden America's corporations with deflated value all to prop up a service economy that is living beyond its means.
