Could we PLEASE stop sending everything back to Iraq? This is about the Nepalese revolution, not the war.

The Nepalese civil war has been going on for over EIGHT YEARS, it hasn't suddenly materialised out of nowhere; in that time the communists have managed to take over 40% of the country and have sieged Kathmandu, the capital.

America has begun to arm and equip the royalist forces, and the UN is engaged with talks with both sides;

Quote:
Mr Annan's previous offers to mediate in the conflict were welcomed by the rebels, but rejected by the government.

Peace talks have failed twice over the rebels' demand for a new republican constitution.

This should answer most of your questions;

Default Media coverage of the conflict in Nepal

Thanks for this. I still think international media is not giving this conflict enough coverage. Perhaps there haven't been enough atrocities. But the fact is that media could help to prevent them.

For the moment, conflicts in Iraq, Palestine/Israel, and to some extent in Sudan will dominate the media. Again, as long as it is not covered extensively by the media, the conflict won't get enough attention from policy makers and observers. A vicious circle?

Most of you seem to be up in arms that the UN has done nothing. Perhaps its for the better of the people of Nepal? I hope they achieve victory, with the civil war, and with achieving a real communist state rather than a dictatorship.
It's certainly never happened before. Previous attempts have always degenerated into oligarchies and dictatorships...always. Why would it be different this time. What variable has changed?

Anyways, the simple fact is that Saddam had no WMD's.
We had no way of knowing that....he wouldnt let us look. Were you willing to take his word for it?

Default Your arguing

As it stands your arguing for the military supportof Royalist forces in Nepal over Communist rebels for no other reason than the fact that the rebels are communist.
Now this is very interesting.

The war is between two opposing ideals - communism and monarchism. There isn't much of a morale high ground here

Default Well its real simple

Of course America isn't backing Communist why would we be?? What in this nations history make you believe that we would be backing a bunch of Marxist? Communism VS Monarchism hmmm I think Aristotle would agree Monarchism is the lesser of the two evils.

Why do Americans love aristocrats for some reason?
The only good one is a dead one.

Even Communism is better than Monarchy.

Actually, Nepal is a parliamentary democracy with a constitutional monarchy. As for the reason for the civil unrest? There is a strong possibility that the Maoist insurgents are backed by the People's Republic of China.

Recently the monarch expelled parliament because he didn't like what they were doing and has only recently re-instated it. As for the reason of civil unrest well Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world and was ranked low in HDI, the Maoist promise of bringing power to the people must seem popular.
