Russia slams report linking it to Iraq's missing explosives
MOSCOW: Russia on Thursday slammed as "made-up nonsense" a report that its forces removed the explosives missing from a military base south of Baghdad before the March 2003 US invasion. "It is impossible to consider such reports in a way other than made-up nonsense," said Vyacheslav Sedov, a spokesman for Russia's defense ministry. "I officially declare that the Russian defense ministry... cannot be connected with the missing explosives, since Russian military personnel left Iraq long before the Anglo-American military operation in that country," the Interfax news agency quoted him as saying. http://www.geo.tv/main_files/pakistan.aspx?id=47178

Has Russia denied their involvement (proved by others) in the Oil for Food Scandal, yet?? And to the other poster, I hardly call Russia an ally in this action - although not quite considered an enemy, they did infact ingage in hostile actions by their support for Sadam. Does anyone remember the $76 million dollar deal to upgrade Sadam's early warning detection of coalition aircraft over the no-fly zones? Russia only backed out of the deal when the US learned of it and put the screws to them. When the poster compares allies who are losing life and treasure in Iraq to those who may have even contributed to such loses it greatly reflects their general misunderstanding of what exactly has been going on. But go ahead, blame the President for the actions of others. Blame our military for the actions of others. And, most importantly, jump on that band wagon and support your monday morning quarterback.

For those interested.....
Just talked to a friend of mine knowledgeable with the subject of the missing explosives - satellite images will be released to the press soon showing a "large number of trucks" leaving the compound just days prior to our invasion. I know this won't mean JACK to those frantically searching for bad news to latch on to, but it should put the issue to rest for the remainder of us. I also know some will say I just made this up - so wait until it happens before responding. I don't have the inclination to argue about it beforehand. |

Of course they are going to deny it. It doesn't mean that they didn't have anything to do with it. It doesn't mean that the explosives were there when we were there. Our military wouldn't have let 380 tons of explosives to be stolen. To take 380 tons, it's going to take a lot more than one dude with a backpack. The entire story is rather unbelievable.
