Default President elect Obama's cabinet

Quote:
The tradition of the Cabinet dates back to the beginnings of the Presidency itself. One of the principal purposes of the Cabinet (drawn from Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution) is to advise the President on any subject he may require relating to the duties of their respective offices.

The Cabinet includes the Vice President and the heads of 15 executive departments-the Secretaries of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Education, Energy, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Labor, State, Transportation, Treasury, and Veterans Affairs, and the Attorney General. Under President George W. Bush, Cabinet-level rank also has been accorded to the Administrator, Environmental Protection Agency; Director, Office of Management and Budget; the Director, National Drug Control Policy; and the U.S. Trade Representative.

But most of those positions aren't needed in reality.

"We'll consider"?? <<<Personal Attack Removed>>>

I thought you stated Obama would be bipartisan? Only one slot for a Republican? What about Nader and his people?

I didn't think so, the only reason he'd hire a Republican is to get those 60 votes in the Senate. You don't expect anyone with a brain to believe otherwise.

Obama is already proving that he is a change from the past by how he choosing this cabinet. As for the choices under consideration - I believe Hillary would make an excellent Secretary of Health and Human Services. This would reduce the conflicts of interest created by Bill Clinton's foundation. I would not put Richardson in as Secretary of State because of his history or being something of a loose cannon. My first choice for the position would be Colin Powell.

Do you think he'll pick as many minorities as Bush?

Don't know or care about the race or gender or sexual orientation or political leanings of the members of the cabinet as long as they are solid, qualified leaders. We are now in a new day -- a day when things like race, gender, sexual orientation or political affiliation are not as important as the ability to get the job done. I for one hope Obama does not pick a single cabinet position based on the candidate's minority status.
