Default VP Cheney checks into Hospital

VP Dick Cheney checks into hospital due to shortness of breath. Not a good sign. Wish him luck.

Update: good news is that it is more of a precaution, no heart attack per Mary Matatlin.

Default He's okay

He's already gone home. An upper respiratory viral infection....aka "a cold." He got it while out hunting the other day. But when someone with a bad heart has "shortness of breath"......it needs to get checked out.

Thank God he's okay and it was nothing serious.

Default Repeat?

This may have already been discussed elsewhere, but what happens if Cheney has to step down for health reasons? Who (if anyone) replaces him?

There would be a few hopping mad people in both parties if he were replaced by someone interested in and able to run for president in 2008....

Why? Where is the rule that says a Vice President CANNOT be interested and able to run for president? In fact.....that is generally the case. Are you trying to say that Pres. Bush would be....or should be.....limited to choosing someone with no presidential aspirations?

I was making an observation, not crying foul. One of the things people consider with Bush/Cheney is that Cheney has no interest in running in 2008. So you have all these people on both sides of the aisle laying plans for 2008 based on there being no Republican Al Gore to short-circuit the Republican nomination fight.

If Cheney resigns and someone with 2008 ambitions gets the job, that's going to throw a wrench in a lot of people's plans. That's all I'm saying.

Default Can I nominate McCain at this point?

Or would it be in poor taste?

If the choice had to be made (G-d forbid, I'm not wishing Cheney any harm), McCain is the way to go!

Default McCain is a shoe-in for 08.

That's why he was a good little soldier in 04...he was earning the nomination.

Assuming he is the man for '08, and assuming that the Dems will produce only another clunker, I have to ask that my former remark be stricken from the record - were McCain the repub man in '08, I'd consider voting for him.

Default I only wish he'd won in 2000...
