Where's the scrutiny comparable to that on our Marine shooting an Iraqi?

There won't be. Now if this had been Americans...I don't even want to think of the repercussions. But since it wasn't Americans this will barely even be whispered about.

And the "world" is not into demonizing France. If it doesn't concern some way to further demonize the U.S. the world press and liberal organizations won't be interested. This is why those who like to continually drive home a point that the U.S. is "hated"......they should understand why. There is a concerted effort by certain elements to make sure we are hated.

It is outrageous, but you still need to understand that France's actions on this occasion (which should warrant arrests for the soldiers who took part in it) do not excuse the same or similar actions taken by American soliders in the past which you have so strongly defended.

I don't believe anyone's trying to say the French doing something makes it ok for the rest of us.

Further, I don't believe any of us (JP and myself, as far as I know) have defended any similar action by American soldiers...

Yes, I do defend it. It's the decision of the soldier "in the field" ...based on what they see and know. They are there.....in the WAR zone. Not YOU and not ME. THEY are the ones dealng on a day-to-day basis with the enemy who has been known to fake being injured....or being dead.....only to have a bomb under them. THEY are also the ones who have seen the enemy coming towards them waving white flags.....only to open fire on our Marines as they get close enough. Fallujah is a war zone. A war zone where civilians were warned for weeks ahead of time to get out.

Quite different from huge military arsenals opening up on an unarmed crowd of civilians......and who were given no warning. I can't believe some people can't seem to see the difference.

No, there is certainly no difference. The Ivory Coast is thick with rioters and violence - the soldiers in the field, right? Either you're okay with both or you're not okay with either, you can't pick and choose and try to find a difference that isn't there.

How dare the French shoot those people who are only exercising their rights to free speech?

We have an American Marine shooting an Iraqi in a defendable situation, and the media's all over it.

We have French soldiers shooting down Africans in what appears to be a less-defendable position, and nothing.
