Perhaps you're mistaking Iraq for Afghanistan?
I believe we went into Iraq because Saddam Hussein had violated the conditions of the 1991 UN ceasefire, which was the reason we LEFT in 1991. That was a re-engagement, not a new war. But I know such things are confusing to leftists, who have a short memory. Catz
