Default Britain unlikely to back any US attack against Iran

Britain unlikely to back any US attack against Iran, Turkish Press, Jan 21

It looks like if Bush wants to go to war with Iran he will go alone.

"For all the stern words from Washington about possible military action against Iran if it fails to rein in its nuclear ambitions, the United States would almost certainly have to mount such a campaign without the backing of Britain, its staunchest ally in Iraq, according to experts."

So the Coalition of the Willing loses another one if it is to keep on liberating.

IF there is an attack of Iran it will be with planes and missles. We don't really need anyone's help for that.

True, but you do need infantry to consolidate the ground. Unless the plan is to link the Caspian Sea to the Persian Gulf.

I think the only thing possibly on the table is taking out Iran's nuclear facilities. There is no need to take or hold the ground, just to remove their ability to develop nuclear weapons.

Fine by me. I would rather not have European input into our defense decisions anyway. This is actually a good thing IMO.

Exactly. Any "coalition" action would be mostly US anyway. Might as well cut out the middle man.

Consolodate the ground for what? Target nuclear reactors. Destroy nuclear reactor. The US is already the best in the world at doing that stuff. The only purpose a coalition serves is to make us look more legitimate in the eyes of Europe. I no longer care if we are legitimate in the eyes of Europe.

With most of the US military currently entrenched there? Yeah right.

We didn't have infantry in Kosovo or Yugoslavia when we bombed Yugoslavia. We didn't have infantry inside Iraq when we bombed their installations back in 1998.

First of all, I don't place a lot of importance on the Turkish press.......and especially when they use unnamed "experts."

Secondly, a bombing campaign we wouldn't need the Brits. And of course, we could also simply let Israel do it. IF Israel discovers that Iran is close to nuclear weapons that can reach them.....which would certainly be the case....then they'd have every right to defend themselves from this possibility.

Possible, but I'm sure they were watching during Gulf Wars part I and II. I kinda doubt they will be in much of a hurry to take us on.
