But I am concerned about what is going on with you.

The hate-filled post over on the Terry Schiavo thread just makes me thing that there is something really bad happening in your life right now.

Also, I read enough of what went on that I can speak my thoughts about the teaching of tolerance and how it should be done and invite any pro or con opinions.

I did not in any way suggest you should be removed from the board. I'm sorry if you were threatened with that but it did not come from me nor would it have. I told you, I've been in the cross-hairs before and lost my temper. I took some time off out of here and came back far able to stick to the issues, to ignore personal attacks and even, sometimes, to turn unproductive posts into something we can try to examine and see if there's something there to learn from.

Specifically, if you'd truly like to bring the discussion along, would you please answer (without being too personal, just in a general way) how and when you learned about homosexuals and lesbians and what your response at that time to the knowledge was. How old you were at the time would be helpful. What decade was it. Just a suggestion.

Just to help along, I'll go first -- I was in PE class, in the locker room, when one of my friends, Eddie, started talking about figs, about how if they ever tried to get him to shuck their ducks (i.e., oral sex), he'd bite their ducks off. I was thirteen.

Gosh, now I realize why this is a topic that probably shouldn't be breached -- it's too hard to discuss without going pass the threshhold limits of language for this forum.

My personal response was utter shock. I'd never heard of such a thing, never dreamed it existed and believed that I was being made the fool of another joke. It may sound hard to understand but I was well liked because I was so naive and gullible. I'd fall for anything. Because my parents never taught me anything whatsoever about sexuality, I didn't know a thing about it other than what I was told by my fellow classmates and what I saw when our dogs and cats got pregnant and had litters, that was until sex ed in 10th grade. I think I'd liked to have learned about sex ed in maybe 6th grade, and definitely prior to beginning junior high. But my parents failed to do their proper parenting and rural Missouri schools in the 1970s weren't really equipped to deal with regular sexual education in schools at a proper age, much less about anything controversial, like different sexual orientations.

I first learned about homosexuality due to a family friend. Later years led to the discovery that he was not gay but he was "fruity" or "feminine" for lack of a better word.(but (*)(*)(*)(*), he made the best cheesecake in the world.. and for a fat kid that was heavan.) My parents explained to me the difference between his "demenor" and other people around me. I was probably about nine or ten years old. They explained all about the birds and the bees and I am fairly sure that delving further into that discussion is in poor taste. Needless to say, my family are world renowned for what they do and come into vastly more contact with homosexuals than the "average" southern, rural family. My family is hardcore rightwing though not actually republicans... I went to my great-uncle's funeral this morning.. he was a mayor of a local town for many years and he was a democrat. My family is tolerant of almost all lifestyles... that means we TOLERATE their choices but does not mean we have to AGREE with it.... You would be surprised and impressed if you spoke to me IRL without knowing it was me...


Believe it or not, I have little or no HATE or anger for homosexuals, liberals, communists, or muslims... To tell the truth, I hate the game not the player.... You see me arguing here, but you do not know the person on the other side of the keyboard.... I am the white guy that tells BIGGER white guys to shut the F up when they say the wrong thing.... whether it be racial, sexist, or homophobic.... one of my favorite sayings is that I would rather have SadSav in a foxhole beside me than some of the right-wing rednecks i know... I trust Sad more.

Now, that the smoozefest is over, I will ask one more time in an attempt to figure out how you are able to determine tone from type...... you do realize that derision does not equal hate or anger don't you? Wait you are a liberal... there is no difference with you guys... you have a serious tolerance problem.
