Default A Bill Maher Salute to the Troops.

Stay classy Bill. Quality comments from a guy who thought terrorists on 9/11 were courageous or whatever.

Typical Democrat. If he had any viewers, people may be outraged.

Typical stupid comment. Oh, and Maher is a libertarian.

I can't stand the man. He's a total pill.

Whats so grossly offensive about that? Its a reference to the unfortunate serious of rapes that have happened- in Japan at least I don't know about Germany- a topical addition to his asking the question of why you're still there. Hes not saying all military personnel are criminals, and to be honest I don't see how you can honestly derive that from his words- its either overreaction or malicious obfuscation.

This is just the introduction to a far longer piece on the American empire, and its a calculated shame that this is what pierces the right-wing sphere, but not the other. Here is the entire clip, if you're interested. I'm not sure I get the black socks thing, and I doubt you don't get something from your 500,000 strong world-wide presence.

Oh and "...a guy who thought terrorists on 9/11 were courageous or whatever." Yes and hes got a point there too, though its a simplistic form of courage I'd think- of necessity short lived, built up by lies and false promises- and while your source gives the quote, they misinterpret it as well- hes not disparaging individual pilots etc, he uses the word 'we', so hes accepting his own small measure of culpability.

There is nothing courageous about self indulgent suicide and mass murder.

You have given up on the world and you will take innocents out with you, and then bet on an idiot paradise.

That is not courage, it is lunacy.

It easy enough to be both- for instance it would be more cowardly on the day of the attack to not show up out of, well, cowardice, than to go through with it- so there's a element of bravery there. I don't want to wax lyrical about them, but your phrasing isn't how they were thinking, and they would have conquered fear to do what they thought heroic, I'd imagine.

I don't call them brave to praise them, and like I said its a shoddy sort of bravery.

Well, I guess it is brave to rape a new prison inmate in a prison shower knowing the guards might beat your ass, but that is not courage.

Killing helpless civilians for imaginary virgins and imaginary Allahs is pretty much the same thing.

Yes not a bad analogy, though I wouldn't demean the word brave in that context... I suppose its got something to do with how mindful you are of your actions, the time spent thinking on them and how honest a picture you have of the situation, so that you can truly face up to the situation and act courageously.

Its nice seeing a show where the people aren't shouting each other down when they disagree- they agree allot of course but it happens- its really a tragic shame that 30 seconds is all most right-wing people will see, just like all events are covered by the media as scandalous sound-bites, instead of the thoughtful exchanges that are happening just to the edges of what gets wide circulation. Got to puncture those bubbles imo, its wasteful and dangerous otherwise.
