Mexico's National Human Rights Commission recently issued a warning about several new grass-roots movements inspired by Arizona's Proposition 200. Other Mexican officials have cited the Minuteman Project, a plan by activists to patrol the border during April, as a sign of rising extremism.
Anyone want to tell me how enforcing the law is extremism? "We totally reject the idea of these migrant-hunting groups," Fox said. "We will use the law, international law and even U.S. law to make sure that these types of groups, which are a minority . . . will not have any opportunity to progress." First of all the minutemen are not hunting simple migrants. They are hunting illegal aliens. Second of all there is no law he can use to stop people from progressively helping our border patrol catch law breakers.(as long as the minute men aren't violent of course) The activists say they will notify the Border Patrol if they see border crossers and will not confront them directly. "Vicente Fox can rant and rave all he wants, but he obviously doesn't understand what a democracy means," Simcox said. "We have been working within the law." All legal. No need for Fox to pitch a fit unless he wants his own citizens to keep breaking the law; which he does and they are. He's also against the wall in California.(shocking.....not!) "We are convinced that walls don't work. They should be torn down," he said. "No country that is proud of itself should build walls. No one can isolate himself these days." Fox said he understood Americans' concern about protecting their southern border. But he dismissed fears that terrorists have sneaked into the United States through Mexico. "We have absolutely no evidence of that," he said. I don't have the stats in front of me know but I'm pretty sure that I've read that we have found some potential terrorists have come through our southern border. Even if we haven't, terrorists sneaking across the border is as easy as a bird crapping on your head when you walk under a tree. This statement is the understatement of the year: Bush needs to do something about illegal immigration. If a politician would use stopping illegal immigration as an issue in the next presidential election, I'd bet the farm that they would get elected. EDIT:Oh yeah I guess I should post the link http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/0317fox17.html

The history of corruptness of the Mexican government is the reason their economy has always been virtually worthless. They do not stand on their own at all. They sponge of the US. Their solution to boosting their economy is to tell their citizens to go to the US illegally and send as much money back as they can instead of trying to fix things at home. The government even hands out leaflets explaining how to cross the border undetected. Personally, I don't blame the Mexican citizens for wanting to come here to make money. If I were them I'd probably want to also.

The problem with Mexico is that they have what we would have if there were unfettered capitalism: a LOT of extremely poor people, and a very few extremely rich people, and no one in between. This means that these few are able to basically control the lives of the poor. And they do, and the keep them poor, and this leads to a lot of government corruption - the government just sits around and helps out the rich, and in exchange, the rich make it impossible for the poor to have their way with the country despite being a huge majority.
There is also a huge drug problem in Mexico. A single bill legalizing all drugs would solve the problem cleanly in a year or two, but that will never happen. I give Mexico a decade before there's a popular uprising.

http://famulus.msnbc.com/famulusintl...ts=31920052204 The story also refers to an incident in which citizens burned to federal agents alive for something. Sounds like the Mexicans are getting more fed up with the corruption already. Just go to Mexico and get pulled over by a cop. Many times they'll pull you over for no reason at all and put forth some bogus charge. Give them a $20 and they'll let you alone.

$20? I live in South Texas, and I know a lot of people who frequent Mexico because they have family or business there. Back when a couple of these people I knew were 12 and 14 (they were cousins), they'd bought some beer while they were in Mexico and here headed back the their house when a policeman stopped them.
The 14 year old was arrested. The 12 year old was set free because he had 50 pesos. Which is about $5.
