Default Or, more accurately,

let's move on the next one. Michael Jackson more likely than not.

Default Act II

No, the circus moves on. Now comes the autopsy, the prayers for lawsuits or murder charges against Michael, the fundraising appeals, the possible legislation in Congress.

And who wants to bet that the anti-euthanasia crowd will soon find another PVS poster child to flog?

The only part I'm looking forward to is the debate in Congress. That's where we stop opining about what is "right" and start getting down to the brass tacks of "what are we going to do about it?" Assuming it's a reasoned debate and not a rush to posture, it'll be a good debate to have.

Default The Anti-euthanasia crowd and their poster children...

Oh, you mean those of us who believe that human life shouldn't be destroyed simply because it comes in an inconvenient form, and who find the work of *bioethicists* like Peter Singer who are at the forefront of the euthanasia movement to be disturbing and nauseating in it's contempt for the miracle of life?

Hmmmm.

Hysterics aside – what about Terri’s “life” did you find worth preserving?

My sympathies to all involved.

I suspect we won't hear anything else in Washington about this. Judging from the recent polling results, I think most in Washington would prefer to forget about the whole thing.

For the 24x7 news I agree with stekim, Michael Jackson case round the clock.

While prayers for charges will happen, the charges will not. The autopsy was entirely Michael's choice. If he was concerned he would not have agreed to the autopsy.

As for euthanasia, it depends. If you are talking about doctors ending someone's life because they deem it not worth living, it's one issue. If you are talking about someone deciding themselves that it's over and getting doctor assistance it's quite another IMO.

I'm more on your side than not. I don't believe society has much business deciding who's "worth" keeping alive and who's not, as long as society (i.e. taxpayers) isn't being asked to pay for that upkeep.

But I also don't think that principle extends to poking one's nose into a family's private tragedy.

Terri's case turned into a circus. My comment was meant to reflect my disgusted expectation that the next Terri-like circus is just around the corner.
