Fair comment JP5, unfortunately both sides of the argument spread misinformation.

Although in many cases this is not deliberate.

Just reinforces our need to be skeptical about what we read and to seek out many different sources of information.

Cheers,

Default I'd love to recount what my family friend in the region..

has to say about the great things that have been achieved by this illegal invasion...But I can't.

He's dead.

So unfortunately he can't comment on how the media has got it all wrong and that the Iraqi's are now in fact living in the lap of luxury and want all of their daughters to marry US servicemen and name ALL of their first born children George...

Pardon me if i suggest that the letter you posted is full of bollocks...

Screw this (*)(*)(*)(*) stupid war....and the idiots that support it...

Default some have been reported as true

* School attendance is up 80% from levels before the war.
* Over 4.5 million people have clean drinking water for the first time
ever in Iraq.
* The country now receives 2 times the electrical power it did before
the war.
* 100% of the hospitals are open and fully staffed, compared to 35%
before the war.
* Elections are taking place in every major city, and city councils are
in place.
* Over 60,000 police are patrolling the streets.
* Over 400,000 people have telephones for the first time ever
* An interim constitution has been signed.
* Girls are allowed to attend school.
* Textbooks that don't mention Saddam are in the schools for the first
time in 30 years.

I have seen all of these above facts discussed and shown to be at least partially true, with video, and interviews of Iraqis, on CBS Sunday Morning, which airs, obviously, on Sunday Mornings on CBS, nationwide. Each week they have taken a small segment to discuss Iraq. Of course some of the numbers may be a bit off, but they are similar to what I remember CBS reporting.

Last week they went with a group of soldiers and were shown new facilities and improvements that were recently made thanks to coalition forces, including phones, massive hospital improvements, and electricity. This was just one area, and one show. But they have shown other cities also with similar improvements.

Please note that I'm only talking about the facts above that I cut and pasted, not the whole list.

They also discussed that cellphone providers have already put up relay stations and the few people who could afford them were buying them. Internet, too, was popping up in store-like settings.

They also discussed in depth the last point, and talked to children about how often they had to put up with reading about Saddam's "heroics". The children all said they were happy to be back in school.

They also mentioned how the ports were much more available for free traffic but didn't get into specifics.

They also detailed a few times on how people were openly free to worship without fear of Sunni oppression.

These stories were spread out over the last 12 weeks or so on their program. You should watch it, or tape it. They have some good stuff right there on the scene, and don't just give some 20 second blurb.

Specialist Tillman was killed in Afghanistan hunting for the enemy that declared war and attacked the USA. He was one of 15,000 us soldiers that are taking the fight to our enemy. This particular phase of the global war on terror started in 2002.. a phase that has become harder and taking longer that it needs to be because....

A date was set and a decision was made to invade another country, Iraq, by 2003.

It is now 2004 and the bulk of the battle-ready us military (+100,000 soldiers) are nation-building and garrisoned in Iraq.

WHY ARE WE F"INGING AROUND IN IRAQ while the real enemy is still in Afghanistan?!@

This whole year has been so frustrating :sighs:

You know, reading comprehension in America's Educational System is sorely lacking. I'm an educator and it's something I see every day. It's truly galling.
Just fess up, you got caught with egg on your face. Like the Kerry-Hitler comparison speech, it was put out as propoganda, and whether or not you did it intentionally, it was debunked, so give it up.

Default ...

I saw an interview with three soldiers, who just returned from Iraq, on C-Span. Nothing like hearing the facts straight from the source. These soldiers were told they would not be sent to the front lines so there was no need to supply them with body armor. What they weren't told was that the front lines were all of Iraq. Not only were these soldiers not supplied with proper body armour but they also had to take a 50% pay cut while serving in Iraq. They flat out said they would not reinlist and who could blame them? If this represents the setiment of the majority of military personel who have served or are serving in Iraq then the draft seems likely. And the cycle of misleading the american people continues.

Rememer that Iraqis LOVE Americans in LIBERATED Iraq. Please don't say that the terrorists kill a considerable number of Americans every day. I am convinced it is the people.
